Irish Derby

Astrology is out to 40/1 this morning, which is absolute bananas considering his form.
Maybe many have him a makeweight or pacemaker, but he's a horse that needs a stamina test, and the plain fact he goes here just 8 days after AO'B said he might have run too soon after Epsom suggests he's a much better chance than his price implies.
Unlikely to beat Camelot but, at the price, won't need to.

Don't leave the price put you off -Sholokhov was placed for APOB at 250/1 in 2002 and his runner up in this years Irish 1000 was 66/1.

Camelot did that pretty well given the conditions.

The most exciting thing that could happen for racing this season now would be connections deciding to go for the International against Frankel.

Doubt it will happen though.

I think we're on the verge of seeing the weakest Triple Crown winner in history. Unbalanced, ungainly and making the most of a very weak crop of middle distance 3 yr olds. He looks to be all over the place every time he runs to me.

I'm not convinced the ground was the major problem either. It might not be his favourite going, but none of the others looked to be relishing the going either.

I'm hoping the Leger trip will show us his optimum trip. He looks like he needs even further than the Derby trip to me.

I'll admit to being biased, but if Camelot gets within six lengths of Frankel over 8 or 10 furlongs I'll give up betting for life!

My personal opinion without hearing any interviews or reading any reports is that Doncaster will not be the plan after today.

I'm bemused by how a race can be called the 'Irish Derby' when there are so few runners and one of them is a pacemaker. Listening to it on the radio I rather hoped that Born to Sea would win.

I think it's safe enough to call it a derby when the English Guineas and Derby winner is in the field...and wins it.

I cannot see him going to Doncaster when there's an Irish Champion and Arc for the taking!

If Camelot and Frankel don't meet they should all hang their heads in shame.

Think of it in breeding and marketing terms - why take him on? Will it really make him more attractive as a stallion? No, those who will use him won't be swayed by that meeting. They might love their racing but they're not stupid!
