That's enough! One run before the Gold Cup will do me, the Saval Beg probably?

Beat Opinion Poll at Doncaster, which was none too shabby for a 3yo and they were considering forking out £200 grand to supplement him for Champions Day. Failed to line up, although he seems okay now:

Oxx: "He won the Doncaster Cup as a three-year-old and I'm pleased with him at the moment," Oxx said. "The plan would be for him to start off in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan on May 20 and all going well there, he'd then go to Royal Ascot. Given he's stayed two and a quarter miles at Doncaster as a three-year-old, you would be hopeful he'd stay the trip at Ascot [two and a half miles] all right.

Very plausible stamina profile 7-1-22-8-4 = 42, DI 0.83, CD -0.02, everything you would want to see in fact. 7/1 with Hills.

Duntle just won the opening maiden by 18 lengths... I've seen months where the total winning distance at Dundalk is not 18 lengths...!

As well as an Ascot Stakes/Queen Alexandra winner in Cover Up. Bundles of stamina, I'm beginning to wonder if he'll be fast enough!

@GearoidVI @kevinblake2011 We had an auto-rate of 102 but I would like to look at times etc before confirming.

Duntle could be flattered..the time was only just over 1 second per mile faster than the 0-65 10f race won by 57 rated Hawkswood

It's fascinating though! I look forward to reading you ratings boys explanation.

it can be sometimes that the others just underperform..it looked impressive but the time doesn't support it

now if the 2nd horse had run faster than the 57 horse it would look different

it may be that the winner is seriously overbet next time on the strength of that

I think that's a certainty EC1. The temptation to considerably step her up in class will be massive too.

On a side note:

@Aidan_m_: Tote Figures for Dundalk week on week - this week's Tote Aggregate €318,034.48 and last Wednesday's Tote Aggregate - €65,386.13

48 hour decs should be here to stay for the AW at least.

In the first race connections of the Dunne horse thought he was above average and had backed him well, while team halford thought it would take a good one to beat theirs. I see your point though about them underperformance though.

Massive success for the 48hr decs going by the figures.

Dundalk the first to try 48-hour declarations

RACING:*A LITTLE piece of history will be made at Dundalk on Wednesday when it hosts a meeting featuring 48-hour declarations.

Horse Racing Ireland announced the move yesterday on the back of approaches from the television station Attheraces and French racing’s ruling body, France Galop.

Instead of final declarations being made for the meeting the day before, they will instead be made for at 10am on Monday.

HRI are taking the step to evaluate the impact of international betting turnover, much of which is co-mingled back into Tote Ireland pools. It will provide a direct comparison with last Wednesday’s Dundalk fixture.

HRI’s director of racing Jason Morris said yesterday: “I would stress that this is a one-off trial at Dundalk next Wednesday to allow us to evaluate the impact on international betting turnover, particularly from France, of 48-hour declarations as compared to 24-hour declarations.

“The trial next Wednesday will allow all parties to evaluate the effect that this has on turnover.”

Much as I hate agreeing with him, it's hard to believe that there can be a five fold amount bet into the pools purely because they are online a day earlier??

Kevin Blake's blog explains it perfectly:

DUNDALK EXPERIMENT

In terms of the off-track action in the last week, without question the most interesting development on the Irish racing scene was the trialling of 48-hour declarations for Wednesday’s card at Dundalk.

48-hour decs for Irish Flat racing have been called for from this corner and many others for years, but it was somewhat out of the blue that the announcement was made. For those unfamiliar with the significance of 48-hour declarations, the primary perk of having them is that they make it much easier for foreign countries to encourage their punters to bet into the Irish Tote pools on Irish racing.

The Irish Tote pools swell notably whenever French punters bet into them and not only will 48-hour declarations make our racing more appealing to them, but also to punters based in the colossal betting markets in the Far East.

With the Irish Tote tending to be held back as a serious betting option due to a lack of liquidity, anything that helps swell the pools needs to be heavily encouraged. After all, if the Irish Tote is doing well, Irish racing reaps the profits from their success. While this is just a one-off trial, one would hope that they will be implemented in full for the 2012/3 winter season at Dundalk and eventually all Flat racing in Ireland.

It's really aimed at the world market so... fair enough. I would love to get my hands on the Tote... They are so far behind the market it's unreal.

The example tonight though shows how the UK has missed the boat. There is no excuse for Irish Racing to make the same mistake.

As you say half siblings. The devil’s in the detail. When you debut any horse at 10 furlongs and immediately step him up to 11 furlongs, it’s a good clue that he’s going to need every inch of 12 furlongs and then some to be seen at his best.

Can someone explain to a thicko like me why 30 hrs decs before off time isn't enough for the frogs?

Todays Paris Turf features all tomorrows racing in depth with form etc with scant regard for todays racing. I made the mistake of buying the paper on the day for French Derby or as a Prix de lArc souvenir only to get trotting at Vicennes or some such. Creatures of habit have to have their habits fed, so to speak.
