Irish Presidency

%1st Preference Vote

Higgins 39.6%
Gallagher 28.5%
McGuinness 13.7%
Mitchell 6.4%
Norris 6.2%
Scallon 2.9%
Davis 2.7%

The only person I feel sorry for is Gallagher. Our national broadcaster reading out a hoax tweet live on air in the last debate among candidates for the highest office in the land is unforgivable.

Gallagher is a ball bag, but nobody deserved that. I am surprised more hasn't been made of it.

Sinn Féin must be disappointed in Martin's performance.
Mitchell and Davis performed really poorly. Maybe the latter is regretting sending her granny to canvass for her the day I saw her in town.

Your spot on there. What ever you think of Gallagher that was absolutely scandalous. Anyone could tweet anything all about someone and RTE will read it out if your not directly affiliated to a political party. if they did that to Mitchell or Higgins you'd never hear the end of it.

I'd like to congratulate my Irish friends on the wisdom of their decision.

It can only be a matter of time before the new Prez invents a machine which prints Euros, causes houses to sell themselves, and installs JP McManus as T-Shock. Your pain is almost over.

I'm hoping he calls his gizmo "The Econulator" or something like that, and gives us a detailed chalk-board breakdown of its constituent parts and functions, live on RTE.
