Irish Racing Thread

Is this that Cliff you're talking about ? I read a couple of his early ones he struck me as your average a,b,c punter not too far removed from myself and the kind of punter Slim loves so much. Like Slim i cant see that there is anything worth paying for but then people make money from all sorts of things I wouldn't pay for.

As it goes i'll just be upfront if anyone wants to send me money for any of my jokes ( mostly found free in Christmas crackers) or Tips ( whether they win or not is kind of irrelevant ) or my self appointed role of diplomatic negotiator at TH (even though i get in more trouble than most ) Or even because my name starts with a D ( which it does) or for that matter any other possible reason that you feel you need to send me any money whatsoever please knock yoursleves out. Otherwise I'll just carry on regardless and you still recieve all of the above services free of charge whether you want them or not. Ignore button is an option.

I see nothing wrong with commercial operations that aren't scammers. They just need to be clear that's what they are.

A section on the forum for such to pay to advertise their wares would be my approach, that would help pay the running costs
Wouldn't have to be just form analysis or tips type stuff.
Any horse racing orientated stuff.

You guys are very lucky there isnt bookie & casino ads all over, you are getting a free ride.

Good writing is not cheap, especially if it is sulphuric, topical and honest. I pay for this one and would highly recommend the small amount charged to support one of our own.

Does that small subscription buy you immunity from being called the C-bomb or from general abuse for having an amateur level knowledge of form ? Asking for a friend.

I actually studied the two big handicaps today but did so without knowing owners, etc.

Here are my short lists, in card order:

2.45
Blizzard Of Oz
*Sa Majeste (hope they pronounce it right for once - 'Sa Ma-jhes-tay')
*Win Some Lose Some
*Waterford Whispers
Backmersackme
*Buachaillbocht (pronunciation guide, please, someone?)

3.52
Murcia
Blue Lemons
*A Dream To Share

*It was only when I went to back them I realised how many of JP's I'd picked.

Still, I haven't backed any singles.

The main bet is a double:
Buachaillbocht x A Dream To Share

And I've added the others in ew combined doubles to smaller stakes for the sake of an interest.

I'll be happy not to lose too much.

So lads just to let lads on here know where I am coming from.

I run a private forum with a help from others (Barjon being one) and we put everything up there we pay for for free after we get on.. its a small group of about 20 people and no is charged anything, once we get on the bets I couldn't give a flying fook who wants to back them after that.
Anything I put up here is stuff I may have helped the person promote, just like the lay of the day, that guy is a service too but he puts one lay a day up on our site everyday.

the reason I put "for anyone interested" is not everyone has the time to find that stuff or some people do not know how to find it.
I do realise there are very experienced punters on here and they can find better but there are some newbies here also.

my forum is running about 10 years and the same people are with us from day one and it has always been 100% free

So don't worry about me being a spammer/promoter I am not but if you did think it don't worry in this day it seems everyone is on the make

Myles

Yes Danny that's him, I differ in opinion to you I think they are great write ups however they are not for me as I only back 10/1 or bigger very rarely go under 10/1
Like all the AI stuff floating around now they always seem to go for a horse quoted 1st, 2nd or 3rd fav sure yer granny can pick thoses ffs

Just for context, the 5,566/1 Trifecta I put up here (which at least one forumite took advantage of) was FREE - ditto my various winners at prices: 45/1, 40/1 40/1, 33/1 off the top of my head etc from not that many bets tbf - anyone following me would be absolute bombs in front (FACT) since I rejoined and i invite anyone who disagrees to trawl back and collate the stats to prove otherwise.

It's FREE because I really don't want anyone here's money that badly, or at all.

Why am I typing this?

Another ego trip?

Not entirely.

It's because I'd say that kind of FREE material sets the bar for anyone who wants to charge for anything.

Do better than I've done here if you want to charge.

God dammit. Been sucked in Majborough again. Purely ground related. Slower pace, more time to think at the jumps. Least my excuse to back it anyway

He’s going end up in front of greatest ever cliff horse Abacadbras.

I've been considering backing Maj all morning. You'd think it really is now or never. But I do think I'd have a heart attack if I had to watch him jump fences knowing my money was on the line

Blimey. The 2.45 at Leopardstown looks all at once impossible and enticing.
My ew two for this are Waterford Whispers 8/1 and Blizzard Of Oz 33/1. 365 go 6 places.

I’ve done a low-stakes Yankee:

12:40 - Adrienne
13:40 - Ballyfad
14:45 - Prends Garde A Toi
15:52 - A Dream To Share

I grown to really love this meeting over the last few years.

Behind the (predictable/lovable) decidedly Ianesque nature of Ian's comment above, there's an important point that I was on the cusp of posting several times this morning and decided it wasn't valuable to say.

But actually, it might be valuable for some. And that point (or those points) is/are for anyone thinking of taking advantage of this (paid) service or, indeed, any other similar.

(Note: that's patently not (and never would be) going to be any of the regular posters here, but it might be some who prefer just to read and take it all in, especially if any are newer to the game).

You might have valid reasons for doing so. You might think you need this sort of stuff. You might 'just' not have the time to dyor. You might think it's the dog's bollocks. You might even have had some winners on the back of it (though I'd suggest that nothing I've ever seen on it so far did actually name a winner, but probably there were one or two).

For info of its type, and fwiw, I'd say this is one of the better ones I've seen.

But...

  • If you know horses and horse racing, or are prepared to work at it and have the time to 'know' horses and horse racing, you 100% don't need it (as Slim indicated some 20 posts back).
  • You'll get a lot more pleasure/satisfaction from working it out yourself (though there are paid services involving the use of data in different ways which can help contribute towards that pleasure/satisfaction).
  • You'll get better chances of backing winners (for free) just by following the thoughts/selections of several members here.
  • Indeed, there are multiple ways to identify your own (potentially winning) bets in a fraction of the time without trawling through reams of 'trend-based' heavy wording based on someone else's opinions (though, again note, using trend-based data yourself to identify bets that others might not identify can have its value).
All that said, it would be interesting to hear from anyone who does pay for a service like this, explaining why.

Maybe there are some valid thought processes I'm missing.

But - on the face of it - it just can't be about winner volume or profits, because there isn't (and never will be) a service (that doesn't involve your own thoughts and knowledge, or others free thoughts and knowledge) that will give anyone anything more than noted above.
