I’ll always remember when he rode Neptune Collonges in the National. Mr Hales was so nervous about him running he said to Daryl, if he isn’t happy at any stage pull him up, even if it’s going down to the start. So he really trusted him. He deserved that win.

Oh it was so close wasn’t it. Didn’t he suffer an injury at the end of the race? I’ve never been able to rewatch the race because of what happened to According to Pete, though. A dead heat would have been a good result.

Yeah, he broke down on the run in, bless him. If it wasn’t for the adrenaline masking it for him I like to think he’d have won if he didn’t. Such a sweet horse - and tiny as well, there wasn’t much of him - especially up against the girt big Neptune!

Kevin Stott rode a Group 1 winner in New Zealand yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if he was riding in Australia by the end of the year.
