K. Fallon's antics at Longchamp today

Could someone explain why a horse is given a fairly heavy wallop (stick) after making a mistake at a fence?

Does it actually serve a purpose?

No, jockeys just do it for the fun of it ;)

It can help to make them concentrate and to wake them up a bit for the obstacles that are coming up.

Did you get your parents' or guardians' approval before you signed up, Rival? Because if you're 18, you joined aged 12! (See Terms & Conditions of board usage.)

I've already talked to my agent, Martin, and he'll be signing you to Red Hot Flixx tomorrow morning. You - for the main, er, part. Me - as a security minder on your dressing-room door. I knew that NVQ would come in handy one day!
