Do we have a thread for the best NH race outside of the festival yet? Couldn't find one. Odds...

Vautour (3.75), Coneygree - with a run (5), Don Cossack (5), Coneygree (7), Silviniaco Conti (7), Cue Card (17), Saphir Du Rheu (17), Djakadam (21), Dynaste (21), Ballynagour (26), Don Poli (26), Many Clouds (26), Ptit Zig (26), Road To Riches (26), Sir Des Champs (29), Al Ferof (34), Irish Cavalier (34), Menorah (34), Simonsig (34), Smad Place (34

Coneygree with a run is very tempting. It wouldn't shock me if any of the first 4 in the market won the race but I think he's capable of just galloping this lot into submission. Really hope he turns up. I'd be put off if he does take in the Hennessey though.

Can't see 3 of these beating him if he turns up so 4/1 looks an ew bet to nothing

Agree - You are best taking odds on him with a run now because if he misses the Hennessy (which is highly probable) his odds will collapse for this (if they havn't already).

That said..its shocking how few bookies are willing to lay him at present (with or without a run).

Living in fear they are...! Certainly not doing punters a favour!

All power to Cue Card, The Tizzards and Paddy Brennan(who I've always had a lot of time for) but if there's any horse I want to be on at Kempton it's the 2 time winner with a proven track record time and again of turning the tables after a previous disappointment.

Not convinced Conti will reverse the form unless it's a real slog. Cue Card is an older horse now and may just stay a bit better, and add in his breathing problem.
Having had Vautour mapped out for this long ago, I have enough doubts to jump ship (as much as that pains me).
With a clear round I think Don will win.

i don't think SC will beat the Don either..wiill be 2nd to him..the Don is a little bit better imo

So do I. I reckon he's a fair bit better than anything else around at three miles, including Vautour.

We could have a couple of seasons where Don Cossack is Kauto Star, to Coneygree's Tank!

It's foolish to dismiss Vautour after one run in open company, imo. You needed a telescope to find Ptit Zig at the finish in the JLT, and it's impossible to believe he has improved almost two-stone in the interim. The more I think about it, the more I reckon Vautour has run considerably below the form he showed in the spring.

That said, The Don is the one to beat in the King George - has very few chinks in his armour.

I'm not dismissing Vautour Grassy. He's a class horse, I just think the other two are better. I didn't think there was too much wrong with him yesterday and thought the performance was fair enough. I do think that 3 miles will stretch him though (less so at Kempton than Cheltenham obviously), and have a feeling he'll end up in the Ryanair rather than the Gold Cup where connections will have Djakadam.

It may be that Vautour and Don Cossack don't meet again at the Festival. Unless it's a very close finish I reckon whichever wins will go to the Gold Cup and the other to the Ryaniar.

If he doesn't go very close in the King George, that might well be the plan, EC1.

On breeding though, Vautour should be better over further than shorter, and I remain hopeful of a big run at Kempton.

You judge him too harshly and too early, Paul. If you didn't think there was much wrong with him yesterday, how do you explain the fact that PZ has turned the Cheltenham form around to the tune of about 25lbs?

the angle on vautour for me at the moment is...........what races has he truly impressed in away from cheltenham?

i can't think of any

I'm certainly not dismissing him purely on basis of yesterday. I just have it in mind he's better on better ground, and 3m on softer ground may just stretch his stamina too.
As for Ptit Zig, think he's a much better horse in these conditions than spring ground. With Vautour being reverse then that brings them closer. Granted Vautour will come on from yesterday too.
Wouldn't mind being proven wrong in the KG but I have enough doubts to jump ship.

vautour = ryanair imo..they might dilute him over further..give 3 a try and see what happens

Said this a while ago. Think he could run a huge number in Ryanair, even though highly unlikely he'll end up there.

He hacked-up in his maiden hurdle at Navan, and also in the Deloitte in his prep for the Supreme Novices. He slaughtered Clarcam in his Begginers Chase at Navan, and would have won with his head in his chest anyway (2nd well held when falling at the last) at Leopardstown, in his prep for the JLT.

I didn't think I was Nick. What I'm saying is he did what you'd expect and nothing more. I didn't expect a 30 length demolition job because P'tit Zig isn't that bad, and this was a tune up and more travelling experience for Vautour.

As I said I thought yesterday's performance was fair enough. He'll come on for it as you'd expect, and to be fair to Ptit Zig that was probably as good as he's been and it never looked remotely like being good enough despite finishing relatively close.

i was a little surprised that win being taken at face value by anyone tbh..like said KP said he really needed it..so to be fair its a very good run under the circs. Beating PZ when not fit looks pretty good to me...3miles is what i'm not sure of

I dont know about the King George but its the type of performance that I thought would be ideal if you were planning a horse to be right for the Gold Cup next march. A proper test over an inadequate trip against a horse who while not of the same class was cherry ripe and aiming for a big pot. (and is far from useless). When challenged at the last, the jump was all class and settled the race. Connections certaintly didnt leave their Gold Cup behind them in the autumn anyway. I dont get the negativity really.
