11 declared including Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin with Twice Over in there too.

Looks to be between the Hannon pair but someone at PP has evidently lost their marbles - 4-5 CC and 9-2 DT !

I could see Dick Turpin beating a not fully wound up CC on Saturday but even so I would have thought 11-10 and 5-2 would be more like it .

Well, if you were sure Dick Turpin was running, that 9/2 would be the each way bet of the season..

Bar any injury he's running - I had a text yesterday to say how much they were looking forward to Saturdays challenge - This has been the target since the winter

Hannon, quoted on his website, said on Monday: "In all probability both Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin will run.

"I would rather keep them apart, and if I had my way we would save Dick Turpin for the Prix d'Ispahan in France on Sunday week, but John Manley, the colts's owner, justifiably makes the point that Dick has met Canford Cliffs three times and come out on top twice and I know that he is keen to run at Newbury."

If I thought Dick would be ridden the way he was in the Prix Jean Prat or at Sandown recently I'd fancy him.

I'm a massive fan of Jan Vermeer but who out of Canford Cliffs, Dick Turpin and Twice Over will be beat to make the frame? He needs further.

those looking for value are likely to be disappointed. Whether you go for Canford or not at this very skinny price I'd expect him to be unbeaten this season at a mile, whoever he comes up against.

Frankel and Goldikova included?

I think Dick Turpin has more scope than Canford and even a horse like Byword can beat also Canford Cliff.

Indeed - Brave statement given what happened in the Guineas!!!!

I think Canford is going to have a job on to beat Dick Turpin. It took him three goes last year.

Canford is a monster at the trip. You and suny didn'y believe me last season... you'll have to change your minds this season.

You might be correct with you latter assertion (I don't think you are).

But what makes you think Goldikova has run her best race? You might be correct, but what makes you think it?

Goldikova is a brilliant filly but she's six and reproducing close form with Paco Boy just isn't going to cut it with Canford this season.

I respect your opinion Steve, but when I think of Canford Cliffs, I think of a horse who must work better than he runs.

Since his Coventry win, his only victories have been:

Free Judgement by 3L, with the mighty Viscount Nelson and Pure Champion in 3rd and 4th.
Dick Turpin by 1L, with Hearts of Fire less than a length further back
A narrow (but emphatic) victory over Rip van Winkle.

To me, that shouldn't make him an odds on shot, against a genuine G1 field. I think there is each-way value to be had in the race, with a realistic chance of turning over the favourite.

He is probably the best horse in the race, but I am not so sure.

I backed him in the guineas and then left him alone all season!!!

I think he's top drawer and probably the best horse in the race but he is beatable so if you can get 9/2 about a fit Dick Turpin I think it represents good value. Next time out I would probably take a different view but I think fitness and the track will be in DT's favour.

I agree but would riding arrangements and tactics put you off a bit ?
I suppose this time there are others in the race who want a distance and will force the pace so Dick doesn't have to do the donkey work like he usually does when Canford runs.

I haven't looked but assumed Moore would be riding? If so, no worries on that front, and I agree DT will need a strong pace and to be honest I think his best chance is if he cuts out his own running.

Goodwood and Ascot (Round Mile) are tracks that I think played to Canford's strengths - I'm looking forward to seeing him over a straight mile again facing decent opposition to see whether he can see out a strongly run mile (The Curragh is quite stiff but the Irish Guineas field was the weakest he faced last year).

There are probably still similar doubts over DT's stamina but I think they should use his race fitness and test Canford's stamina.

Personally I have no doubts over his stamina, I think it will suit him down to the ground in that something will make a strong gallop out of it an he can tuck in behind and keep an eye on Canford rather than Canford getting to stalk him.

Interesting. My view was that DT has to get first run because Canford has the better turn of foot.

I was impressed by DT's turn of foot last time (Thought he looked a picture as well) though so perhaps it may be worth a go.
