First view as we went in of the famous old grandstand

And from up there on the roof a view of the parade ring, with the runners , unlike most other courses,being paraded anti-clockwise

There was a shock winner of the second, Orrezzo at 25-1, ridden by Mr B J Toomey (7)

A race in which the Elite Racing Club had a runner, Atomic Winner, except he wasn’t if you see what I mean

The winner of best turned out and winner of the race was a Rock of Gibraltar offspring called Shavansky, trained by Charlie Mann

Who’s a naughty boy then ? Overheard on a walky talky as it came in “the rider stopped riding three out, get in there and get it tested” They announced later the rider reported the horse ”tired suddenly”

Sarah Hobbs being interviewed about the winner and also Monkerhostin yesterday. She reported they had been expecting a big run at the Cheltenham Festival and were mystified when Monkerhostin ran poorly there but decided to try again at Sandown as the horse was showing so much at home. Not won since winning the Haldon Gold Cup three years ago , a performance overshadowed by the death of Best Mate.

Which brings us to Gentleman Jim Lewis, here to watch Oumeyade, having its first run for the Nicholls yard since being moved from Henrietta Knight’s.

The next was a hunter chase, here’s Brendan Powell saddling up Lowlander

Who looked ever so posh in his hoody

The first three taking the water jump, eventual winner Alvino nowhere to be seen

Brian Toomey also rides out and works for Brendan Powell! He is possibly one of the politest members of staff/jockeys I have ever met. He absolutely deserves to get on as he gives 150%. I saw Brian on Sunday at Fontwell - always smiling as ever.

I hope you don't mind DG, but I've borrowed your photo of him winning and put it on Brendan's site. I am sure young Mr. Toomey will be thrilled.
