Melbourne Cup 2010

I always get up for this race; however got Radio Sport 927 on and may end up staying up for the night.

Anybody getting up early for this?

No chance. My pisshead of a cousin will be in attendance though but to be quite frank she probably won't have realised that there were any horses there.....I've told her Illustrious Blue and Holberg are worth a few shekels each way in my humble opinion.

From what I can gather Trackside, that is the norm at Flemington for their festival! I'm trying to educate her to follow the racing but she's on the other side of the world and quite the socialite! The tales I've heard from Flemington are at least on a par with the big UK alcohol fests - women peeing in urinals, sinks, etc.....nice! Can't say I've seen any of that over here, racing. I'd like to add that my cousin is nowhere near that bad, being a lawyer herself!

Was at the Cup in 03. We set up camp in the pre parade ring it was as close as we could get to seeing a race live. The bubbly was nice though. Got out on a Danehill horse in the last after Holy Orders made a show of us.

Great win for Europe with Americain going on, So You Think only third with good runs from Manighar and Holberg in fifth and sixth.

Americain trained by Alain De Royer Dupre whilst Manighar is a horse he used to train. Hopefully he'll be back in 2011 for more glory :)

ATR has just announced that Dermot Weld has now retired PROFOUND BEAUTY.

Cracking race, I thought - everyone tight to the final bend and then a right old set-to to the finish line. Brilliant win for AMERICAIN, MALUCKYDAY apparently not that fancied or discussed on here in second, SO YOU THINK a very gallant third.

I really depends on what section of the track you are seated or go to. Flemington is a very large track. If you are out in the general public area, with the "muppets" (what us racing folk here in Australia have dubbed the non racing folk) you will be seated amongst some vile trash. They are there usually for one thing: to get themselves madly drunk. For me that is an absolute turn off. A lot by lunch time don't know where they are, and a lot get escorted off course by the police. Most of these people have no interest in racing, and can really ruin the day for others.

If you do splash out and go into member's (which is expensive but worth every cent), the folk are generally the regular race goers. But usually on Cup day most of the regular member's who have the yearly passes refuse to go.

The crowd from what I have been told is pathetic, the drunks are a nuiscane and most Melbourne regulars enjoy going to the provincial meetings, a function elsewhere or to sit in the comfort of their own home.

I always go to a function in Sydney city somewhere. Yesterday a client of mine hired out the entire top floor of a nice traditional pub near Darling Harbour. It was a lovely afternoon. Three course sitdown meal, unlimited drinks, the races, sweeps and the TAB downstairs. No drunks, just great company and an enjoyable atmosphere.

$200 and a lovely three course meal, of Calamari, steak and vegetables and a beautiful cheesecake, smothered in caramel sauce and caramel ice cream.

Tell the nice people how much you won as well as scoffed, GA... :D

I walked in this morning at work, all smiles.:D The receptionist asked me how yesterday was! I said "Excellent. Food was brilliant, and the company was even better. But the best part, I won the sweep, and am $200 richer!" She looked at me shaking her head and said "Gees you are the luckiest person I have ever met, first meat raffles, now the winning sweep ticket, what is next the Lottery!!!'"

Exactly like the Irish Derby than.

Your making me envious. I'll have to go back when the nippers can hack the journey.

They are amassing quite a team of older horses for next year.

Australia: Superstar So You Think, who finished third in the Emirates Airline Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, is likely to begin a career racing in Europe for Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle, after it emerged that Coolmore have bought into the four-year-old for an undisclosed sum.

The breeding giant has had notable success in the past with Australian purchases, Haradasun and more recently sprinter Starspangledbanner who won two Group 1s in Britain this season.

Commenting on the purchase, racing manager to owner Dato Tan Chin Nam, Duncan Ramage, said: "There are still protocols to be completed before it is signed sealed and delivered."

"They are going to race and breed the horse as a joint venture.

"It is known Coolmore would like to race the horse in Europe and we would have to take that into consideration."

Winner of seven of his ten career starts for trainer Bart Cummings, So You Think was sent off the 2-1 favourite for the Melbourne Cup and was beaten just over three lengths by Americain.

Great news...looking forward to next year already...

I don't think O'Brien ever had as many good older horses...maybe since Hawk Wing/HC year.

Oh, I just guessed about the co-breeding deal on Atacanta, then came on here to find my notion was right. Great that Coolmore has done the deal with Mr Chin Nam - lurve to know how many millions changed hands!

25 mill aussie $ I heard. Who knows if that's correct or not.

Not sure what that translates to into Euros or Sterling, but it'd cover my expenses very nicely! What do you think he'll stand for, Sheikh, provided he doesn't finish gallant fifths throughout his Europe campaign?

A 50% share of him sold for a report $30 million.

I guess Coolmore want to now capitalise on High Chaparral.

He obviously will stand the northern season at Coolmore Ireland, and then most likely the southern season at Dato Tan Chin Nam's Think Big Stud.

Corals have priced a few of them for next year's Eclipse!

It's all about how he gets on up here isn't it. I won't be rushing out to back him ante post.
