Michael Jackson...

It just goes to show that money does not make you happy, I met twice many years ago he was hounded by girls then, Don,t beleave everything you read that,s all I can say, and we would not have half the trouble in the world right now if more people were like, Micheal Jackson and John Lenoen,

RIP; true musical genius but sad to how see how far he fell in recent years.

Childish shite is a bit out of place surely, BTW?

Well I must be alone in thinking this singer/ dancer (I won't call him a musician) produced nothing more than turgid disco pap. I can honestly say with my hand on my heart I never found one of his songs remotely likeable, in fact I kind of regarded him as something of a musical anti-christ, who for reasons I've never fathomed seemed to plug into chord of mutual vulnerability (especially amongst early-teen females) and built up an irrational following bordering on obsessive dedication.

He was lucky in that a vital 'star' witness suddenly turned evidence on the stand (any prosecutors ultimate nightmare) and he escaped, whist leaving the impression that American justice is little more than a plutocracy.

Childish shite? If a market on whether Jackson was a paedophile existed (libel laws aside), he'd have been 1.06 to back. Why is the probable fact that he was an exceptional musical talent detract from the probable fact that he was a paedophile? It's undeniably true that the latest case against him was brought by a clueless zealot, but anyone who believes that MJ's relationships with children was at all appropriate needs their head examined.

For the record, I cheered loudly when I heard the news, and I was a huge fan of Off The Wall as long ago as 1980. I also adored Mein Kampf (only kidding, that really was shite).

The biggest shock to me is that everyone was describing his death as a surprise; the biggest surprise was that he made it to 50 in the first place. I remember having a conversation with someone in recent months (I forget who) in which his upcoming tour came up - I asked what price he'd still be alive to make it to the first performance.

Michael Jackson was absolutely barking mad but was undeniably a genius in some ways - fine lines and all that. Considering how turlbulent his life was and had been, maybe it's easier for him now.

As for Rory's comments, he has a valid point. Mind you I'm not sure I agree at 1.06 to back, I reckon that would be a bit of value and you'd struggle to get on at that price!

It's his children I feel sorry for - living behind masks and under cloak and dagger for 10 or so years and now their dads gone they probably think this sort of stuff is normal.

Great musician, eccentric person though.

I'm with Rory - OK, so he was a decent musician (sorry but imo not great) but if wasn't suspect re children then I can speak fluent Dutch.....

The very way he has been bringing up his own kids, wearing masks etc in public would make you wonder and the fact he had musical talent does NOT make that justifiable...

Mentioned to someone earlier that I wondered how long it would be before the Wacko jokes started the rounds...I now have already received three MJ texts....

Who knows for sure what impact his childhood treatment by his father had on him in his adult years, but his contribution to pop music production methods and the development of music videos cannot be denied from a performance point of view. I was never a great fan but did see him live a few years ago, but have to say it was one of the worse concerts I have ever been to as he was so self indulgent, it was boring and we left before the end. Having said that, one of the Jacksons' songs is one of my all time favourite records and would certainly be a desert island disc.

I swear there's a factory making these jokes up - my girlfriend told me one at midnight last night and she was getting it off a work colleague anywyay

 Mel...

Opened my e-mails to find the pose from 'Thriller' and a foot very gently tapping a bucket. I clicked on it, thinking it would play, but as it didn't I replied saying I didn't know what it was supposed to represent. Now I do!

Brilliant entertainer, leaving out all the bizarre personal guff.

Always grim for someone to conk out at 50, but in his case, perhaps it was better than, er, face old age.

A great performer but the brains behind it all was the brilliant Quincy Jones. Cant say the Jackson Five stuff stands up well now but much of the Off the wall stuff sounds as fresh as ever. "dont stop to you get enough" is an absolute classic

As for "turgid" that the last word i would use to describe.

A strange man though. Never happy. And its very very sad

I liked Thriller, and Billie Jean but thats about it of his stuff. I agree with those who hope "his" children (a picture in a mag recently showed them and they have very pale skin, I know their mother is white, but still...) can now live more of a normal life

If he' is the blood farther of the three kids I'm a Rabbit who are trying to kid-

As an act he was the best- his private life should be private,

Even the breaking of the news was bad as one of his brothers only found out when

his little girl who waswhatching tv, said daddy there saying uncaul Michael's dead

he rush in saw the news rang his manager who told him xxxxxxx you lost him,

That is not a nice thing for anyone to go through.

Much as though I personally can't say I'm too bothered about Jackson dying, any more than I think his music was little better than anodyne pap rather than a work of genius, I haven't resorted to turning these boards into a joke-along anti-tribute either. There will be no shortage of these gems of humour crop up in the next week in emails, twitter and facebook etc those of you who don't feel able to contribute anythign beyond this and want to go down that route please do so elsewhere rather than lowering this place.

thankyou
