P.S. back ON topic - Kate couildnt think of anywhere she would take her mum for lunch that was in Birmingham itself Griff.

P.P.S. I think I have explained my reasoning on my mistrust and dislike of most things brummie - for personal reasons I dont want to divulge any more details on here, but I would like to point out that my original posting was IN NO WAY ( whatever Mike would like to make out - his answer to my first reply obviously means he has a problem with me but I dont know what - methinks is a pm - not board thing) a slur at PDJ. As he doesnt seem to have taken offence at it I dont think it needs discussion further.Far as I am aware me and PdJ get on ok....

Who would've thought that such a simple question could cause such a heated debate?

All my plans have gone awry  In their wisdom, Virgin trains have decided the last train from Birmingham to MK will be at 10.10pm so I'm going to have to drive instead. I hate driving to new places, it'll be dark and it means my leisurely day out will not be stress free as planned  I now will have to drive from Faringdon to MK to pick up Mother, then onto Birmingham, back to MK and finally home to Faringdon at goodness knows what hour.

So this thread and the resulting commotion was pointless, I'll not be eating out in Birmingham after all!

I use trains fairly regularly from New Street to Oxford (especially when I've been back home to York) and it annoys me that the last train back to Oxford from New Street is at 9.03pm.
So I have every sympathy for your predicament (dunno if u could have got on a National Express coach to MK Coachway from Birmingham or not at that time of night).

Mk Public transport links are utter shite, It is impossible to get a train East or West, you have to go to Birmingham or London and change. I would rather eat my own feet than go to London by choice, I hate the place.
It also takes more than 2 and a half hours to get to Cambridge by coach, a journey of less than 60 miles

Yes

Most people I meet from London seem to be very pompous and also very rude. I would much rather go to Birmingham where friendly people live

I would love to know how much of London you have visited and exactly how many Londoners you have met.

I have been to central london 10 or 15 times. I have worked with may londoners and they all seem to have a vastly over-inflated opinion of the city.
Every time I go to London I find people barge you in the streets, shop assistants never have any time for you.

Brummies are much friendlier than Londoners

For what it's worth I have spent some time in all of the main cities in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and a great many of the smaller towns in those countries.

The places where I have met rude people, polite people, happy people, sad people, shy people, brash people, retiring people, pushy people, ignorant people, charming people, honest people, shady people, amusing people, boring people, mild-mannered people, angry people, trusting people, suspicious people - is in all of them.

A few years ago there was talk of re-opening the Oxford to Cambridge line which would've passed through MK but I'm not sure if that's still going ahead. I cannot imagine why they would not! The coach that runs that way just isn't as good.

Very frustrating that there is no train line from Oxford to Cambridge and that u have to go via London.
I don't mind using the X5 for when I go to Newmarket or Huntingdon for the races,at least they are pretty reliable (touch wood!)

They must've been considering it for about five years now. It's about time we saw some action.
