New Moderators

How many mod places are there to fill?
not decided yet
one will be fine if he/she can be here between about 6am and 2am 7 days a week, and as such 10 would be no good if they were all here between 6pm and 7pm on the third monday of every month

I see my name has been mentioned in dispatches and whilst I appreciate that I have two observations.

1. If the members of this forum behaved like civilised human beings on here there would be no need for any moderators.

2. I do not propose to waste my time dealing with the aggravation, confrontations and indirect or direct personal insults posted on here by immature or insecure members, members with egos, members with attention deficit, members who think they are being clever, and members who are old enough to know better.

Whilst I am still prepared to run some competitions and obviously need my current moderator status to continue on that part of the board, if this forum dcontinues to resemble a kid's playground I for one will be taking my leave.

Ermmm, does that actually leave anyone?

No more than half a dozen, two of whom are moderators already.

I`d go along with Gareth, Warbs and Betsmate.

That just leaves Krizon then

Colin, Griff, Gareth and Melendez would all get my vote. As I too have complained about stuff it would be only fair of me to volunteer if needed, but be aware I would pursue a very minimalist intervention policy.

I would like to nominate Ardross to continue in his role.

I have not yet seen a case where anyone who has fallen foul of his moderation was doing so on the premise of making any worthwhile contribution to the forum. In virtually every case, and there are far fewer than most people imagine due to the public whinging and recanting that accompany an incident, it has been a case of intervening in childish abusive disputes, or a legalistic form of badger baiting.

Ardross has helped shape, build and strengthen this forum through his literary contributions, organisation and moderation. It will be a sad day if a few narrow minded whingers who, in many cases, I firmly believe, are whinging for personal amusement, are allowed to have their day.

Without meaning to sound overtly gay, he can delete my posts any time he feels like it.

So, Warbler - would you please add your names to the list?

Having mulled it over, I'm afraid you've talked me into it then Jon  norty and with Euro seemingly offering a second, I suppose its only right to offer.

Good show, Warbs. As I said, you don't have to imagine a huge door clanging shut behind you - you can try it and see how you go. Provided all of the new moderators pull their share of the duties and no-on goes off half-cocked, warning and deleting without consultation, it should be reasonably easy going. The more names in the hat, the better.

o/b, they're already nominated. Do you mean seconded? Why don't you put down the other three persons' names? Has Ardross been asked if he wants to put his name down for yet another year of sturm and drang? I'd rather gathered that he was glad to be out of the fray.

For what it's worth (and given that we don't see what's on the Moderator Forum), I think all the moderators do a decent job in their individual style. I tend to agree with Melendez about the Ardross baiters.
If any of them have battle fatigue then fine but I don't think that any useful purpose would be served by an enforced rotation.

I think the rotation is fine, but that the existing Mods should also be allowed to offer themselves up for re-engagement if they so wish. It gives them the chance to totter off for a year's sabbatical if they've had enough, without having to explain anything.

Perhaps it's also an appropriate moment to thank all the Mods who've bothered with this lark. It's easy to criticise, less easy to be involved (as I found out).

I agree Kri - its far too easy to ride a race from the stands....

So big    to all the mods - you do a really important job on here ( its a shame that you have to, but sometimes its needed.)

The only complaint Ive ever had about the mods is that all the juicy stuff disapears before i get to see it!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah - I know! I missed some of the best bunfights because they started in the morning and had been culled by noon!

Yes, I hope he's chucked his cap into the ring, too? After all, we do want a representative age range... norty
