New Whip Rules

This seems at odds with the following (as Cruella states his second offence was applied with reference to the original offence and if the original is rescinded the following must surely also be rescinded):

The BHA have also considered the impact on those jockeys who have received penalties that would not have been applied if the changes had been in place since the introduction of the new rules.

These penalties will be rescinded and appropriate measures have been taken, including the release of riding fees and prize-money, where applicable, and riding suspensions either annulled or adjusted.

and have all of Mr Hughes's toys been returned to his pram?

Rules about excessive force and using the whip above shoulder height, when out of contention etc ALL still stand Colin - the new whip rules are additions to those, not replacements.
Looking at the pictures printed in the Racing Post every Sunday you would think that they'd abolished this rule already.

Looking at the current racing news stories it would appear some of them at least are able to count - they know £200, £400, £500 and 7.6, 7.8, 8.4, 10.5, 14.5 etc.

:) harsh… all they need now is a SatNav to tell them where they are.

Hopefully this will work though… it sounds more reasonable at least.

Hah! There's a cracker (heh-heh) of Tom Q with his whip way above shoulder height on FRANKEL, of all the lazy, sluggish, non-trying beasts! In fact, it was plastered all over the mags and papers following his win before last.

Steve - norty boy!

Quite! But you can't expect them to be thinking of such things whilst they're riding, its far too difficult...

I think (though not 100% sure) it was a second breach of the 'only 5 strokes in the final furlong' rule as he administered 6 on both occasions, so neither ride would be subject to a penalty under the amendments. He was given a 10-day ban because it was still classed as a 2nd offence under the new, unamended Rule. I think both of his bans will be rescinded.

Correct - thanks for that Cruella. Suspect that "totting-up" rule will cause plenty of grief in future.

Jockeys at Newbury & Doncaster vote to strike, senior jockeys having conference call this evening, Jamie Spencer saying PJA did nothing but raise the white flag...Corneilus Lysaght on twitter - now its getting messy!

How dare the people who are risking life and limb not know their place.

I couldn't give a shit about their 'place'. It would be useful if they knew their own minds.

"We're happy with the new rule, we were consulted...we don't like the new rule, we weren't consulted...AP and Frankie say we should endorse the new rule...AP and Frankie say they were rung up while they were busy so their endorsement doesn't count...we can stick to the reduced number...we don't want heavy penalties because we might not be able to stick to the reduced number...we're going to strike...we're not going to strike...we accept the rules had to change...what was wrong with the old rule?..."
