5lbs penalty for yesterday. NdB rode it so he'll know if Hendo has one or two likely to finish in front of it.
 
It gets worse NY the minute I assume the clocks were changed and it's messed up my head...I backed Jonbon ok but missed the race...just watched replay impressive but Paul Townend was kidding enegymene into the bridle a long way out which made him look like he was going better than he actually was

So, inbetween nicking a few quid betting Spirit Of St Louis and then later being wowed by White Abarrio at Gulfstream Park last night, I decided to have a butchers at this and give the TH "Massive" - well those I haven't put on ignore (yes both of you) - the benefit of my frankly supernatural wisdom on the contest.

Pick of the weights is Go Dante on old form, but he's been shocking this season.

Despite taking him to Kempton (an act as daft as previously going for the Greatwood, not the Fighting Fifth, was smart) and getting hiked 8lb, Burdett Road would have a chance off 150 but they've got this absurd fantasy that he could win a Champion Hurdle so he's off to Wincanton instead.

Brave Troop is Charles Byrnes, so merits respect for that alone, but he's 9/1 best and this is a horse who won off 95 and 111, got hiked to 125 and it looks like the BHA have added another 7lb for good measure, so he's on 132.

If he's a 140+ horse in waiting it won't matter, but I've seen plenty from that yard drift like a barge on the day and not be sighted.

Secret Squirrel won well at Windsor, but the one I like is the fourth that day, Navajo Andy.

Windsor might not have suited him, he got outpaced and stayed on, but he's mustard round galloping Newbury, having won his bumper and the Gerry Feilden there.

No idea if he's a definite runner, but it seems a logical target and if you knew he was being aimed at it 16/1 would be fair.

Thanks for this post. I hadn't really had a look at Navajo. I think there's a lot to like.

I've not parted with any money ante post yet. I'm in no rush. Although Navajo and Alnilam are appealing.

The latter is a French bred whose three hurdle wins have all come on soft. Hence I think he must have soft ground at a bare minimum to be competitive. The softer the better for him at this level. I simply cannot back him unless it's genuinely soft.

Golden Ace has its chance, as Tiggers pointed out earlier in the thread.

Go Dante was one of my favourite handicappers from last season. He just looks gone at the game at present though.

One that’s become a cliff horse for me is Our Champ currently quoted at 40/1. Has an 8lb pull with Navajo Indy for a 5l beating and it might have been closer had the others who raced prominently that day been able to take Our Champ to the second last. My fella paid for setting a suicidal early pace at Ascot subsequently and has a 6lb pull with Secret Squirrel thanks to that one’s penalty. That may not be enough but it’s worth a shot at 40/1
 
I've taken 66/1 King William Rufus.

Chris Gordon has an excellent record in the race and wouldn't have entered it if he didn't think it was the right type for the race. His other two entries Aucunrisque and Our Champ would have strong chances on their best form but KWR might be the best of them even if he'll be a couple of pounds wrong and if he doesn't make the cut I'll get my money back.
 
Apparantly the U. K is due a snow blizzard from the Monday after this race.

Looks like luck is on the side of this event happening this year.

Golden Ace pulled out by the looks of it, (oddschecker), and one of my early each way fancies Alnilam out aswell.

Ian's fancy Navajo Indy shortening all the time.

I can't understand why he's still such a big price tbh (44 to small money on the machine) when, as you rightly say, he's not badly handicapped on form at the track over the trip.

Makes me wonder if he's definitely running (I think he's one of three from the yard still in the race) because I'd have him less than half that price.

I've changed my tune a bit since his last defeat.

I'll have to have something on aswell.

My three against the field, if I am allowed three, are Navajo Indy (win only), Mirabad and Bo Zenith.

i would think he’d need the ground to dry out a bit to show his best although he ran well in the race last year on heavy so I’m expecting they’ll let him take his chance now
 
Pleased to see King Rufus William standing his ground and with Burdett Road out the weights have gone up so he won't be out of the handicap.

Starting to look forward to the race now.
