Noted in Running: Flat 2021

Post #3 Technique runs in the Oaks today - 66/1 in above her pay grade I think.

Outran her odds into 7th!

VERTIGINOUS

Bath 4th June
Tweenhills Supporting British EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)
5f, Class 3, £7,851
Going: Good To Firm

Vertiginous had been 16/1 early price yesterday, opened at 11/1 today, was backed all through the morning and eventually started at 5/2 favourite. Obviously, great things were expected of her by somebody.

In the race itself she raced pretty green in mid to rear of the field. She took a bit of time to get going at the business end, drifted out wide, then finished strongly seeing off four of them and closing on the winner without being able to catch her. I think they will probably get their money back pretty soon.

Maritime Wings

Won a maiden at Leopardstown first tome out for Joseph O'Brien today.
By Gleneagles out of a half sister to Mojo Star and Portage, the fact he won first time out for Joseph makes him potentially very good.
The RTV lads were quick to point out that previous fto winners for Joseph won Group 1 races.
Just saw in Racing Post that both he and his half brother lost money for their foal/yearling pinhookers.

MOSTAHDAF

Ascot 15 June
St James's Palace Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Colts)
1m, Class 1, £198,485
Going: Good To Firm

I thought the unlucky horse of the race was MOSTAHDAF who was racing against the rail and had just started his challenge inside the 2 furlong mark. He moved into second place when the leader rolled across him to the rail and blocked him off. Had to be snatched up up losing all momentum and chance.

There was still the meaty end of the race left, of course, but MOSTAHDAF was going into it well positioned and challenging strongly.

An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final two furlongs when NAAMOOS (FR), unplaced, ridden by Ben Curtis, interfered with MOSTAHDAF (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jim Crowley. Curtis was suspended for 4 days for allowing his mount to shift right-handed towards the rail for a number of strides without timely correction, causing Crowley on his inside to have to take a significant check.

Wembley was tanking along looking for a gap too, got murdered and his chance had gone, Rallied late on under hands and heels...

Post #1 Primo Bacio runs again tomorrow 4:20 Ascot, early price 5/1. Lovely win last time, but up in class and a much harder task.

PROJECT DANTE

Ascot
17 Jun 2021
Norfolk Stakes (Group 2)
(Class 1) (2yo) 5f Good To Firm
1st £47,360 2nd £17,912 3rd £8,952 4th £4,472

Dwelt start, raced near side, towards rear, waiting for room over 2f out, not clear run under 2f out, switched left and ridden against near rail over 1f out, good headway inside final furlong, kept on well and went third final strides, 2nd of 8 in group (op 15/2 tchd 11/2).

Only went down by a head and a nose. He had to be ultra patient waiting to get in the clear which didn’t happen until inside final furlong. I suppose it’s a moot point as to whether this was advantageous or disadvantageous, but he certainly finished strongly.

1,000 Guineas 6th Vadream (just behind subsequent gp1 winner Alcohol Free) managed 3rd in the Jersey, on ground that probably didn't suit, and should leave that well behind on more favourable conditions.
(entered in a Carlisle lstd on Wednesday, but I hope she doesn't run, as she'd be nigh unbackable)

Aye, the hold-up king Jamie Spencer gave her quite a lot to do, I thought. She was pretty much last off the bit and didn’t get the clearest of runs when Jamie started winding her up. Be interesting to see the sectionals - I reckon she ran the fastest last 2fur. Got fatter fish to fry than Carlisle :)

Post #17 Dark Moon Rising runs tomorrow 1:15 Beverly, early price 11/2 (down from Class2 to Class5).

The ex H H Aga Khan owned horse Zarzyni now trained by the in-form David Barron, looks to have a great chance. An unlucky in running sh head defeat by Jabbarockie in The Scottish sprint cup at Musselburgh, Jabbarockie has since franked that form cozily under a 3Lb penalty, with an all-the-way win at Chester. Came From The Dark who was a further sh head behind in 3rd in the Musselburgh race has since gone up a further 9Lb for his unlucky sh head defeat behind Lazuli at Newmarket.
Definitely looks like a 6f horse and bred to get slightly further, Beaten only 2 Length's by Lope Y Fernandez at the Curragh over 6F as a 2-year-old. Does look to be real value at 7/1 generally, 10/1 bar, for a horse that appears to be at least 10Lb well in against a lot of first-time out challenges...

Thought I'd put this here...

Post #2 Johan runs again tomorrow 2:45 Salisbury , early price 6/1 - got the cut in the ground you were looking for this time, reet.

MIGRATION

Salisbury 23 June
Showcasing Standing At Whitsbury Manor Handicap
1m, Class 2, £10,260
Going: Good To Soft

Paying close attention to Johan’s race (well, I would wouldn’t I) I was pleased to see Migration slowly away and promptly trapped behind a wall of horses. His first run after a long, long absence he was heavily backed into favouritism at 4/1 from 8/1 opening and much more than that early price last night.

Unfortunately for his supporters he had a nightmare run. Killed by the slow start, as mentioned, he drifted back to the rear, had a go along the inside 4 out, but that came to nought. Some space appeared after 2 out, but he couldn’t get going before it all closed up again. Eventually saw daylight a furlong out and finished like a train in the the last 110 to finish a short head behind the third with the rest over four lengths away. Given the market support and the way he finished I suspect Johan wouldn’t have had it easy if Migration had got out of the blocks. I reckon they’ll get their money back if he’s come out of the race ok.

Looks like she's returning to her best distance too, BJ (holds gp1 Nassau entry, over same trip).
Followed you in with a small e.w.
