Novice Chasers 2009/10

So did everyone else Steve - didn't see much of it tbh Steve but he was beaten 4 or 5 lengths. The usual mist and fog at Exeter playing havoc with the TV coverage.

...thanks IS... perhaps he didn't notice there was one in front of him.:)

I see they gave up before the 3.20 Chase, and the RP Results aren't timed, due to 'poor visibility' - I thought the tv's in the stable staff canteen were on the blink, they were just a solid grey for most of the meeting! Lee MacKenzie did a good job of peering into the gloom, under the circs.

Somerby beats Crack Away Jack and probably would have won even easier but for a jumping mistake close home. Looks a really nice prospect.

Osana did it well at Navan as well. Sizing Europe, Osana, Captain Cee Bee, Sportsline etc all due to clash on Stephens Day.

SOMERSBY was carrying 5lbs LESS than TWIST MAGIC, though, sunybay. That's a significant enough weight differential, without even considering the very soft ground. And one might also consider that by the time TM ran, the ground was quite a bit cut up.

Even with the weight in mind , I think the novice race is a better time and giving how well Twist Magic goes at Sandown and jumping so well, the first 2 in the novice race looks potential champions.

Agreed. My cover for SE will be on Crack Away Jack. Speaking of the Arkle winner, will he go straight to Cheltenham after winning on Boxing Day?

I think it is suggested that Somersby will have a break till Jan .Very impressive performance though .

Somersby looked good but Fehily was a passenger on Crackaway. He stays really well yet Fehily did not try and impose the horse on the race. I wouldn't swap crackaway for the winner.

Emma Lavelle seems to feel that C. JACK's jumping needs a bit of finessing, Sheikh. The shot of him clearing an obstacle in last night's RP online is a case in that point: he's very flat, almost concave, not obtaining the most fluent shape. If she works on attaining a slightly better shape from him, thus optimising all aspects of his performance, he really could be the dog's rowlocks. He sure does stay, and it's just a weeny bit of fine-tuning that's needed to make him much more enticing.

None of them will get any where near HMS Europe in the Arkle, if thats what your saying.

The Arkle is very hot this year. Whoever the winner is will be an extraordinarily good horse. Sizing Europe is very decent, but jumps a bit erratically to be sure of success at Cheltenham.

Shaping up to be the best Arkle in a long while. Sizing Europe, Osana and CAJ are all capable of 160+ ratings over hurdles, plus any amount of others that were embryonic chasers capable of smart form over the smaller obstacles. If Punchestowns were to run here rather than the RSA Chase, you can add onother that can run to 170+ (in the right circumstances).

Class-wise, I can't recall a better potential Arkle field for many a moon. Let's hope the principals all get there in one piece.
