Novice Chasers 2020 / 2021

Very underwhelming there from Monkfish.

Could only beat what was there but he was rated 16lbs superior to the runner-up.

The less said about RJ on Sporting John the better...

yeah for a moment there i thought he was gonna unship townend at the last. few other scratchy jumps.

strong example there of why so many of these faves are/were tough to oppose this week. a stronger renewal and something might have got him beat on a bit of an off-day. nothing remotely on the same ability level in the race.

Workmanlike rather then 'very underwhelming' for me. He's basically cuffed the best staying novices without breaking sweat.

Jumping wasn't pretty in spots, but he could have won much easier if Townend had chosen to be aggressive. Just looked to me like he knew he had a ton of horse underneath him, and could go whenever he wanted.

Not many would recover from that last fence plough in. He's a tank...Extra 2 furlongs and the new course will surely see him even better...Monkfish going for next years Gold cup is probably had something to do with the decision to run Royale Pragaille in it this year!!

Watching Monkfish jump at times, it's almost like he was saying to Paul Townend 'I've got this', and made his own mind up, which, for a novice, could be pretty risky.

You'd hope with another year under his belt, they will iron out those hiccups in his jumping. I certainly wouldn't be against backing him for next years' Gold Cup, he is a beast!

I though Paul Townsend gave Monkfish a shocking ride.....he should have gone sooner got rid of the opposition and the dangerous loose horse......but he seems to ride every horse the same way and doesn't put these good things to bed until after the 2nd last
