Novice Chasers 22/23

Disappointing effort, it has to be said……though there are maybe some small crumbs of comfort.

Two horse races can be a bit iffy, and Coleman never really looked panicked- though there’s no denying he had to get busy with the horse.

All told, you’d have to be concerned about it, and even if you’re prepared to write it off an an abberation, El Fab has won a much stronger race in significantly easier fashion, and I’m now likely to side with him in the Arkle.

I’m honestly not too worried. In fact I think it will do him some good having to wake up and do some proper work. I felt it was almost like he (and Aidan) were taken by surprise and caught a bit flat footed. I felt that Coleman was initially a little careful with him and didn’t expect Skelton to really kick on like that. He didn’t want Jonbon to have an unduly hard race so close to the Festival but he ultimately had to really stoke him up. I don’t think the horse was at fault. Hendo too, may not have had him fully wound up for today. It was a good move by Skelton even if it didn’t pay off. The fact that Jonbon was able to back on top, for me, was a good sign.

Agree

Coleman had to throw him at the last 2, he came up and jumped em both great

He's gonna have to do that if he's to win this Arkle

Good experience for him and he was probably only 90% today

Spot on T. He was dawdling away when Harry thought he'd steal a march at the stage of a race where one could easily be accused of going too soon.

Sure Aiden had to waken Jonbon up but within a few strides he had him covered and eased off the petrol but doing enough to keep within striking distance.

Gave him another giddyup to get back on terms and just kept giving him a poke to keep up to his work. Wasn't hard on him at all and as you say Nicky would only have him 90% as per his way.

Watching Aintree no doubt in my mind Jonbon is the better horse and there's no way El Fabiolo will outstay Jonbon up the hill.

You are like Joe Pesci in Goodfella's. :)

I could swear someone on here gave Gerri Columbe a good mention for this race tomorrow months ago which he is now nearly even money for. Great foresight if he wins.

Whoever that was good luck you certainly got the value.

Need it, Brandy Love a very bad loser.

Re Jonbon today - I'm thinking bad ride in terms of not being patient like Paul was on the winner which put his jumping under too much pressure. I think he's a Ryanair horse for next year.
