Novice Hurdlers 2020/21

It's an appalling state of affairs that in recent years bookmakers are getting away with shortening AP prices for festival races before a horse has even had a trial race, rather as soon as it's declared for it. Considering they've already shortened it prior to that on the back of connections comments, in this case Gerraghty et al.

I've no problem with the shortening after a performance and even to an extent based on bullish reports, although these need to consider the trainer/jockey, as for example I'd probably lengthen one if NTD gave it a glowing report.

But in cases like this it's disgusting and even more so with Shishkin last week. He was max price of 7/2 before the 48 hour decs then you could barely get 3/1. The 7/4 after the race I can just about stomach but FFS, the pre-race cutting was/is a joke.

Rant over, where did you get that 12s Paul ?

P.S No matter how bad Best's brother was, he'd have probably run rings around George Weah's cousin and for anybody unfamiliar with the story, google it. Comedy gold.

Very well written and agree with it all.

Monkfish was shortened for the RSA after Latest Exhibition got beat. Monkfish hadn’t even left his horse box at that point.

Flinteur will most likely gag up, but have gone for an account closing EW bet on My Drogo

He travelled lovely at Cheltenham and pulled well clear of the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] in a race which is historically good quality. Like to hope he’ll come on for the run as went off a wild price and hopefully the better ground is OK

As green as you like. But that’s a shambolic ride by Nico.

Or wins the County, a JP special.

Flinter Sacre, pulled too hard, cant jump....the winner jumped like he'd schooled over fences, still won easy!

Just watched it back. Horse just isn’t very good I think.

I still don’t like Nico though, he’s to me what Richard Johnson is to DO. I can’t take to him. Very fortunate to have the Hendo job.

Don’t discount the winner though

He didn’t jump great either, probably wasn’t suited by the slow pace and ultimately did well to win as he did

Bravemansgame is looking a completely different horse now upped in trip. There's some decent 2.5m + Irish novices to take on yet but he could be exciting.

The Challow often cuts up and he could excel in that and will surely be fav so I've taken the 25/1 for the Ballymore purely because he'll be much shorter if he wins the Challow.

I'm already into Appreciate It with a number of open bets running so I can either keep BMG onside or lay it off in the new year.

Good man

Yes nice one Perp and you’ll probably be thankful the account is closed in March as it’ll save you losing your winnings on him in the Supreme because Skelton’s MO shows he’s more likely to be winning the 2022 County

Fair play, Ben.

Good luck if you are backing them, especially Grand Luna.

I don't know much about the opponents that Will Victory has beaten abroad, but he has some racing experience on his side plus he's won several races so could turn out to be useful himself. At the odds with Sam Twiston Davies booked to ride I actually think Will Victory is a bet.

What prices would they be if Charlie Mann trained Grand Luna etc, and Nicky Henderson trained Will Victory?

Anyways, it is merely another horse race, so anything can indeed happen, including the bleedin obvious, with this odds on favourite in the line up.

I'm prepared to lose, but obviously speculating to win, **** it.

Will Victory was second this day when beaten half a length behind Grand Luna when giving that one 8lb in weight, on what was her first start in England. She runs in tomorrows 12:10 at Newbury, and strikes me as overpriced at 10/1.

Ballyadam tidy enough, but I’ve taken 33/1 about N’Golo for the Supreme. Bigger field, stiffer track, and rising ground sure to suit.

A bit underwhelmed by Ballyadam today. It could well be the hype & the same colours as Envoi Allen but then Elliott & Codd have done nothing to dampen the hype either. Keith Donoghue had said he’s the fastest horse he’s ever ridden.

The race today should have been perfect for him, ran at a sedate pace (11 seconds slower than the juvenile hurdle & they jumped every hurdle) small field and no major bumper horse from last year taking him on.

I thought turning in he’d put a distance between them but it didn’t materlise. His jumping wasn’t great at times either. I Imagine Willie Mullins will be happy enough tonight. There’s at least 3 novices ahead of NGolo in his yard and after pulling, getting slightly caught in at a crucial time he was only 2L behind at the line.

6/1 fav for the Supreme is a criminal price but again I think the colours on the jockeys back and the horse before him are added into that.

It wouldn’t be the biggest shock to see him end up in the Ballymore.
