Point Blank: Don’t Cry Tears for Thurles — It’s Too Late for Them to Get Water

If you read Slim’s articles you know what to expect and if you are emotionally invested in some way you are bound to put the worst possible interpretation on the words he uses. I think Grey was right in his initial criticism, albeit that Slim did not intend the interpretation made and he, in turn, was right to delete the sentence. Grey was also right in expressing his criticism without resorting to the sort of personal abuse that came later by others (which was not right).

I think it’s fair enough for the Molony family to call it a day. In recent years they have kept it going out of loyalty to a father and husband who died some years ago for whom the racecourse was a personal passion. That sort of motivation can only take you so far.

I don’t know if the land is ripe for housing, sitting as it does just outside Thurles town. That could be an obstacle.

Hopefully somebody with sufficient resources to put in the investment needed will be allowed to take over and run it for the good of racing.

Yes. It's time to invest in the track and let it survive another 50 years.

Fair enough, the majority have spoken. Good luck.

Tbf I read that particular part the same way as you. As for personal abuse Slim gives his fair share out where he feels the situation warrants it, i think in the circumstances your f%*& you prick ! Was fair play and tbf to Slim he has took it on the chin.

I wouldn't worry about the easily offended culture who stick their two penneth in on whats appropriate here sometimes. Plus half of them will glaze Slim in hope he drops them them the odd crumb.

Other than that I thought It was another good piece. And find myself agreeing with Ian again which is the most worrying thing about the whole thread.
