Prince Of Wales Stakes

I tend to agree. While DOM is a very good horse, New Approach and Henrythenavigator are probably a slightly better class of horse.

DOM

131p for me today
I was really impressed with him , looks like he will stay.

What an Arc in prospect:

Soldier
Duke of M
Getaway
Youmi
New App
Tartan
vision D
Zarkava
Curlin
Peeping
and maybe some jappanese horses

could be the best renewal since 86

Plus the winner of the Gp du Paris, or the otherwise hidden Fabre 3yo

Just to change the subject slightly.

Prince of Wales
Tote 'swinger' paid 1.60 for the first two
Exacta 7.30
CSF 7.62

With Sp's of 7/1 and 11/1 the 'swinger' still only paid 12.90 on the 2nd and 3rd

I'd fancy Henry or New Approach to beat him over 10f. Could have the Eclipse to himself though.
To be honest I would have DOM over the pair of them at 10 furlongs.

I loved the way he travelled yesterday and once he got in top gear he was really impressive. Whats more we know from last year that he is the sort of horse that would have found more if Murtagh asked for it.

He beat a so so field. The only group one winner amongst them had done so at a completely different distance and the rest were group three performers.

he had his chances at three and i find it a bit hard to believe that he would suddenly prove to be a superior animal to the Derby winner. less sure about Henry simply because he could really be a specialist miler

Exactly. Talk of him being a worthy successor (RP today) to Dylan Thomas is way wide of the mark. DT and Manduro levelled fellow Group 1 performers in the PoW last year. That is one thing Phoenix Tower and Pipedreamer will never be.

There's a nice line through Pressing that suggests he would have been a close-ish third in last year's renewal. I think that's about right.

I remember there was much laughter on here when Fallon said Dylan Thomas was the best he had ridden. People are judging DOM with last season in mind, which is not fair. By the end of the season I expect him to be very close to Dylan Thomas if not surpass him in ratings.

I think people need to take a step back .. this is the danger of rating races and not horses. There are very very few high class 1m2f horses amongst the older division this year.

DoM beat Phoenix Tower (who has won a group 3; rated 116) 4 lengths.
DoM beat Piepdreamer (yet to finish in first 2 in any group race; rated 110) 4 lengths
DoM beat the very exposed Stotsfold (rated 110) 6 lengths

It wasn't a slow pace so there can be no excuses inferring he would have had them stretched out more with a stronger pace.

Duke of Marmalade has no piece of form which entitles him to be anywhere near the front 2 in the Prince of Wales last year.

My ratings agree with your analysis Gareth

Looks a circa. 130 ish effort imo. I'm not too concerned about the proximity of Stotsfold, as a well-run 10f on fast ground was always going to play to that horse's strengths.

I wouldn't rate him the equal of Madurno or Dylan Thomas yet, but like I said this was a career best effort from DOM today and he gives every indication that there is more to come.

That would be my reading of how he's progressing too.
The pastern injury must clearly have still been troubling him before.

Duke Of Marmalade

Looked impressive in the preliminaries, definitively looks a better horse this year, especially on Wednesday, good turn of foot and looks like he will stay 12f in good or fimer ground.

I have him on this race on 131p

Sorry Suny, but how can you have DoM on half a stone higher than Henry when at least the latter beat a Group 1 opponent.

I have Henry on 128p for the Irish Guineas

About Duke Of Marmalade
he put a good distance (4+l) between him and his rivals , in a fine time, Pressing is a solid marker on 119 and Phoenix Tower repeats 122 what is the mark I gave him for the Lockinge, Pipedreamer is an improving type and will fine group races in coming months.
