Qm Champion Chase

Now I'm a believer. :P

That was faster than anything Moscow Flyer did on my ratings. Thought I'd check what Dave Edwards gave it?

180

Moscow's best ever figure recorded was 177 in 'that' Tingle Creek

I'm sure it's just a prelim number. Can see them upping it a couple of lbs and adding the + when they take a second look.

i just wonder what rating VPU would have got without the winner being present????

anyone like to rate the race without MM?
His OR of 169 or maybe a little higher

I think Master Minded put a monstrous performance today,
I rated VPU before the race in something like 169 and I think it is very likely he posted today a 165 or similar, this puts Master Minded in a rating of 188P, the best figure I have put to a horse since I have ratings.

The world is at his feet, 5yo and in the hands of a very good trainer.

I tend to agree Suny.

I doubted him. Now I've been given no choice. This horse is better than Moscow Flyer, norty (good health permitting)

The only performance, ever, by a racehorse that excited me as much was when Golden Cygnet won the SN. That was pure class. I hope he stays well.

Any merit in upping his distance?

Suppose Nicholls could nearly match Dickenson next year. Surely Smith would keep him at 2m, even if he could stay further.

There was a touch of the Secretariat's about it, coming to the last.

I thought the official handicapper used 1lb per length (over 2m at least)?

Assuming so, how can he say:

Master Minded put up a fantastic performance to beat the previous champion Voy Por Ustedes because there is novidence to suggest the latter ran below his true form.

And then rate Master Minded 186 for a 19 length beating of a horse rated 169?

I'm thinking he must be using the 15/(distance in furlongs) formula, which would be:

0.9375*19=17.8125 + 169=186.8125, and knock off the fraction.

but then he'll only be using around .6 lbs per length in the Gold Cup, which would leave Neptune C on over 180.

It's no longer weird Gareth :D

No superlative is suitable for a performance like that

I reckon Suny's rating is spot on - could this be Flyingbolt without the savagery ?

Clive Smith, who owns Master Minded and Kauto Star, expressed surprise at the ratings.

“Apparently there's talk that Master Minded may been raised to the mid-180s,” Smith said. “That's higher than Kauto which is a bit much isn't it?”

Can someone explain what VPU has ever done to justify a rating even close to 170? He was all out to beat Dempsey last year in the QM.

RPR have him running to 165 on Wednesday which must be the roof of his ability.

From the RP site

He accordingly elevated the five-year-old to the heady rating of 186, from 170, which makes him the best chaser since Smith took on the job ten years ago. The previous highest during that period over two miles was Moscow Flyer (180).

180 for Moscow Flyer? I didn`t realise he was so off the mark, i thought Timeform underrated him at 184copout - sorry +

If you want to interpret the race this way

Being beaten 5 length giving 6lb by Master Minded and beating the 14 Mahogany Blaze 21 length giving him 5lb

Being beaten by the same horse off levels, while stuffing a 154 by 17 lengths off levels

If do not want to interpret it this way, you will probably end up under - rating a monster

VPU's 173 on my figures goes back to his festival win the year before last. He hit 170+ a couple of times last season and I used lines with Monet's Garden to support other lines for arriving at Kauto Star's figures.

I might end up taking VPU at 170 as a basis for Thursday's race but it still puts MM on 190 plus whatever he had in reserve.
