Qm Champion Chase

They also have VPU at 170 at his best, which would give MM 189.

No way is VPU a 170 animal. Timeform had him at 163 last year and he hasn`t improved.

It was "crap" in comparision to the the recent greats...Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop and Well Chief.

VPU is a long way behind either of them and the rest are in a different parish.

But because Master Minded won so well he deserves that rating. Does not make it a strong renewal though.
Gal

Moscow Flyer was like the horse we have just seen - exceptional

Azertioup, Well Chief were in VPE's category - Good

VPE would have been beaten by the Flyer, he would have given Azertyuiop and Well Chief a race

IMO, of course

I tend to agree - but within the world of RPRs he is.

Any rating will probably have to be based on Schindlers Hunt, beaten 36 lengths.

The RP have him consistently at his best at 152, which would give MM a 188.

They also have VPU at 170 at his best, which would give MM 189.

188 or 189 would put Fair Along on ~153, which is half a stone less than his best to date.

Throw in something for style and you've got a perfectly arguable case for a 190.
Again, agree. Maybe even 191/192.

There shouldn't be a fear of giving a 190+ rating if the horse proves he deserves it, and especially so in a Championship race.

What a fantastic day's racing.

Azertyuiop and Well Chief were both 175+ horses.

I'm not sure VPU is even a 170 animal, and that's not trying to crab him, but Azertyuiop and Well Chief were top class, i'd say half a stone better.

Just my opinion of course :D

Disagree...Well Chief and Azertyuiop were a grade up from VPU.
And collateral form backs it up. Dempsey and Ashley Brook were of a similar level of ability. The former only just got beat by VPU in last years QM - the latter was thrashed by Well Chief in the Game Spirit, and it`s a fair punt that impressive though he was that day
WC still wasn`t as good then as he was in 2005.

Using collateral form of The Listener, Denman is not going to finish in first 10 of GC

I think that shows you what use the A beat B by X, A beat C by Y , so B will beat C by Z thinking is

Agreed Charlie and I think Denman is clearly better than that. But he is such a short price that, to me, an awful lot is being taken on trust that he is as good as people think. We know Kauto is a 180 plus horse yet Denman is challenging for favouritism.

You don't have to have a bet Gal :D

I want to lay KS this year, but not being sure of Exotic Dancers well being, i probably won't lay him unless he goes a daft odds on price

I just hope KS, Denman and ED etc are all in top order and all jump cleanly, because we are in for one hell of a race if they are

I think the most impressive part of Master Minded's performance was the superb jumping.

He just took them in his stride and stepped over them.

Shades of Crisp at Aintree.

He was very impressive Colin wasn't he and i don't think we'll see a better performance this season

I've been saying all season that it's been a bad time to own a decent staying chaser because Kauto, Exotic Dancer and Denman are in the way.

Now it looks like it's gonna be a bad time to own a decent two-miler.

The Ryanair is going to be very popular next year.

The best race (for me) of the festival so far. I have never seen a horse gallop so fast at the fences and then just step over them. It was literally poetry in motion to watch. He was fast, he was extremely accurate and he deserved every inch of that win. I think we have seen a very special horse today and to think he is only 5 years old. Wonderful.

This could be one the all time greats in it's infancy...some infancy

how good can this one be????

just when we think we are blessed with KS & Denman...this horse throws in an amazing show.

I was about to start a thread claiming MM might well be some way better than both KS and Denman.

Are there any solid grounds for believing VPU (which I rate 173) didn't run to form today?
