Road To The 2013 QM Champion Chase

The amazing thing is that SS could be better as he didn't jump great today. Bit like Frankel in the Guineas. I'd love to see him do it again next season, just so there is no Master Minded tinge. I think SS is not a Master Minded but just to be sure. The biggest problem they will have is keeping such a big horse sound. God if he got three miles......

No one thought Kauto would stay til he hosed home in the Betfair. I just hope they at least try it!

Not really, Sprinter Sacre would do the exact same as what he just did. Flemenstar is good, but not quite at SE's level.

Flemenstar is on an upward curve, sizing can't be at his age. I don't see anything else giving him a race.

Outside of the failed 3m experiment he won an Irish arkle by 17 lengths and beat big zeb 8l first day out over 2 miles

I just heard an interviewer suggest to Nicky Barry would have a problem deciding which horse he would ride if Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig clashed in the race next season.

Pure media hype at it's very worse

They'e gone a furlong clear of the rest and he's still made a great horse look ordinary

Well said. If any horse deserved to eyeball Sprinter Sacre it would be Sizing Europe for that short period today. Chuffed for both horses and I hope Sizing has a happy retirement, wouldn't want to see him racing on now.:) In winning grade 1 races over the years he could never really prove much in terms of his rank and status, but I reckon even as a distant second today he'll be remembered as the horse that came second to a legend.

Hats off to the winner though!:)

Sizing Europe's a tremendously consistent horse, running a RPR of 171 - 174 in 7 of his last 8 races. With everything in his favour today, you'd be pushed to say he didn't run somewhere toward the high end of those ratings. Though both were eased in the closing stages, that can't equate to less than a 20lb beating, and the mind boggles as to just how good SS might be.
Still can't believe what I saw today, just sat there shaking my head for the last 2f.:

The handicapper is asking us to believe if Sprinter Sacre was sit to give Sizing Europe about 16lbs it would bring them together.

Sprinter Sacre 11st12lbs
Sizing Europe 10st 10lbs

If he's right we are expected to believe they would dead heat at those weights

We rally shouldn't laugh at him he does try

Had he been born in the 60's he'd have been beating lesser horses in handicaps by the score

If he had 12st7lbs on his back and the likes of Wishful Thinking was in opposition with 10st0lbs on his back I know which one I'd bet to win and I'd take a another bet that it wouldn't be the handicapper that would lay me. By his reckoning SS would be oddds against and WT would win doing handstands that's how far he is off the mark.

If I am right and Sprinter Scare would beat Wishful Thinking at those weights and you agree do the sums

I think a lot of the rating problem with some people not really believing is that if we look back 30 or 40 years ago its easy to say and believe.....ooh yes X horse was a 190..what a great horse etc.....but when a horse is actually creating these massive figures its hard to believe and people are reticent to believe whats actually happening here and now..i got the same feeling with how people viewed Frankel..people going..oh yes its a great horse..but is he really that big a figure?

whereas in 20 years people will look back and have no issue with the ratings given to Frankel and SS due to nostalgia kicking in...and will say..they were the days..we will never see the likes of them again:)

its like we never really appreciate what is here and now

Master Minded wouldn't have seen which way this monster went and as for Simonsig - if I were the owner it would be an easy decision for next March - Champion Hurdle.

Nothing has stood out in the novice division and the fly will be 10. Grandouet with a clear prep likely fav but that's a big if.

and Ted Walsh was a prick today. If his son had ridden him he'd have been lauding him up but pretty much the first words out of his mouth were FlyingBolt.

All I know from today is that an absolugte stalwart, top-end, in-form 2m chaser (albeit an 11yo) was made to look like a selling-plater by Sprinter Sacre.

Without having to come off the steel either.

If there's been a better 2m chaser whose performances aren't restricted to Pathe Newsreel and Utopian assessment, then I'd like to know its name.
