Road To The 2013 QM Champion Chase

It looks like Sizing Europe runs in Queen Mother as he's just been jocked up on Racing Admin which would indicate he's been declared.

I think if you are to pick a horse to finish second or third behind Sprinter Sacre, I would think you would be looking for one who is not going to get into 'a race' with him. I expect Sizing Europe will be handy and racing or chasing him from some way out, and this could take its toll, and he may drop away.

So, looking for something that will be a little further back, in the market without Sprinter Sacre, Somersby at 7s e/w (effectively to finish in the first 4) must be a great bet. Cue Card and Finian's won't run, and that leaves SE, Sanctuaire and Wishful Thinking. 7/4 the place looks outstanding, and the win bet is live too.

The secret is to make it look like you're concentrating on work, but spend all day on here, on Twitter and e-mailing yer mates. I've already warned my gaffer that he can expect the absolute bare minimum from me today.

I thought you were your own gaffer? Or are you still talking to yourself? :)

I am, but being a whore freelancer, I have to let those employing me think they are my gaffer.

Edit: Put it this way, when I was asked not to take Tues-Fri off on holiday, I informed them that it was a resignation matter as far as I was concerned, and they backed-off. :D

After careful consideration we've decided on the Queen Mother Champion Chase for Sizing Europe....HDB

I love the horse but last year Cue Card couldn't even get him out of second gear. Not a race to be backing ew in you'd be best pi$$ing the win part against the wall. You'd have to think Sizing Europe has the beating of all the others but he could easily burst if he tries to go head to head with Sprinter Sacre from around 3 out.

Richard Johnson according to what Denis O'Reagan said last night is going to sit out the back and let them get on with it and come very late to try and nick 2nd but Dominic Elsworth has more chance of doing that than him.

I backed Somersby at double figures to finish 2nd after the VC but didn't think SE would run:(

He's 9/1 without SS and at 1/4 the odds to be in the first 2......first 3 if SS wins or is 2nd. Seems worth a chance to me

And what really has Cue Card ever done???

He's just won the Ascot chase over 22F and is now thought to be a Ryanair horse...hardly on list of all time 2 mile greats is he???

Sizing Europe would do Cue Card over by 7 lengths or more any day of the week over 2 miles my friend.:)

If people think last seasons Arkle performance from Sprinter Sacre will be enough to beat the former champ Sizing Europe they are mistaken.

Its just a shame in a way the Ryanair doesn't come before the Champion Chase in the running order and then that way we could see how good this Cue Card actually is.

And if the mainstream public have any sense they'll back Sizing Europe e/w down to the price he should be, around 7/2.

You can't go wrong in life backing horses at 6's with the form of Sizing Europe. People think too much, thats the problem these days.

No, I think his last run was quite good. He'll stay and stay as well.

Your bet makes sense if you think Sizing is well into his downward curve (possibly is). That aside, unless Sizing's performance has dipped markedly, I don't see Somersby getting the better of him

I'm not saying Somersby is at this stage better than SE but that how they will both likely race against Sprinter Sacre means Somersby is much better value to place than SE.

Somersby is a grade two horse on a right handed track.

By the time he knows he's running in the Champion Chase they'll be parading for the following race. The back is the last place you want to be here.

Really sporting gesture to run Sizing Europe but he has not quite looked as good over 2 miles this year as last . The way the Ryanair has cut up and the ground means he would have had favourite's chance in the Ryanair I think .

A proper Grade 1 opponent for Sprinter Sacre though and I hope he runs the younger horse close and gives him a test .

Adds a bit of intrigue. If he beats Sizing by 15l, people will say Sizing was over the hill.

Shame Flemenstar isn't lining up. Who knows when the next soft ground Cheltenham will be

I am fairly certain he was below his best at Christmas and his last run was a fairly meaningless prep race. They have ducked and dived all season -hopefully the horse will be in peak form on Wednesday.

The day is here. Hopefully sizing still has plenty of scope. The aeroplane needs a race of some sort. If sizing was off at Xmas and could still account for RL easily enough, there is hopefully still ability there.

One of my all time favourites, can't see him not placing

Watching some of the coverage, I think people have got a little ahead of themselves re Sprinter Sacre. I think and hope he will win very well, but I am not taking it for granted. He will have to run well, and probably come off the bridle for the first time to beat SE. He hasn't faced anything this good thus far (Arkle field was excellent though).
