Road to the 2025 Champion Hurdle

Or maybe c hill not as good as before. Nico may believe there is lots more to come but how many horses cruise to the last then don't find much. We will find out in the champion hurdle of course but suspect it will be a lit closer than some think.

Walking in with him after the race Alice P said CH wouldn't have blown a candle out and I thought I heard the presenters talk about how much fitter he looked compared with Kempton but with more to come.

If State Man doesn't bounce back to some kind of form next week he might end up with a walkover but last year's race was worth near enough £100k to the runner-up, more than CH collected yesterday for winning so second place is still worth aiming at.

My take it is that it was the run of a horse not trained to his peak (paddock comments supported that view) and the field were closing on him up the hill and the poor jump was down to his tiring.
It can't be easy for trainers to get the timing right, but he's certain to be fully primed for the big one.
All imo,of course.
Don’t think he was tired. Complacent possibly. Maybe looking at the crowd a bit and his concentration went. Nico should have been on it really and he knows that. Won’t happen again.....that said Annie Power did the same and came down.

Beacon Edge is an 11yo who wants further, but the old boy is in good heart. he's rated OR 146 and yet Anzadam just made him look like a selling hurdler - beat him 11 lengths on the absolute "Billy Idol" and could have won by half the length of the run in if Townsend had wanted to.

I could beat Beacon Edge on the bridle at a slow-run two miles.
No offence, but I'd be backing Beacon Edge. 😂

It's no more meaningless than what happened at Cheltenham yesterday.

Anzadam is the Champion Hurdle asteroid NASA hasn't spotted from out of left field (or left galaxy!) hurtling towards Earth - Constitution Hill groupies be scared, be very scared!

Who knows how good anzadam is. Very interesting choice for townend to make. As I said before we could be on for a classic champion hurdle as I expect Lossiemouth to be better, anzadam to be bang there and brighter days ahead as well. Betting should be fascinating leading up to the race.

So would I. ;)

I agree.

So far Anzadam has not shown himself to be better than about 155. He'll need to be 20lbs better than that to get close to sniffing CH's rear end.

That's a big ask and if Townend opts for him over State Man then I might start taking him seriously.

Constitution Hill won like he was entitled to with 30lbs in hand. He could have won 20L if asked and it would have told us no more than yesterdays race. I'm glad he ran and we got a chance to see him and he is the most likely winner of the British Champion Hurdle, but by no means a certainty.

1. If Anzadam's peak career OR is 155 I'm a rabbit called Lionel.

2. If he misses the Champion Hurdle and races off 150 in the County, you can have the lot on because he will be the biggest certainty who ever looked through a bridle.

None of the above will happen, though.

1. To clarify, I don't believe 155 is his peak but he still has to improve past State Man who is, in turn, a good 10lbs behind CH.

2. If it runs in the County off 150 I'll start believing in fairies.

Mullins saying that they may wait for Aintree for Anzadam.
And of course Mullins has never, ever, been known to say one thing then do another, has he?

I'll worry about whether any of his string are running or not when I don't see their name in either the six-day confirmations or the 48-hour declarations.

Patrick was being interviewed and said he only knows of a couple of times Willie has had an ante post bet
One of those times he backed a hurdler for a race at Cheltenham but he switched races at the last minute and he lost his money. Hard enough to read a man who bets damn sight harder to read one who doesn't
.

I see CH was ten seconds slower than East India Dock over CD.

That's about 50 lengths.

While CH was clearly dragging his anchor through the race, EID has still beaten a decent type in Brentford Hope by about 60 lengths. That has to read as a positive for the younger horse.

If Mullins turned out a juvenile who ran 60 lengths faster than a decent handicapper we'd never hear the end of it.
