Road to the Champion Hurdle 19/20

Willie putting 3 big guns in the Morgiana

A lot of people fancying Saldier for march.

Sounds like a racing hipster way of thinking
All based on the fall at the last when the perceived opinion was that he had Espoir D'Allan covered that day. Espoir went on to win the CH. It's relatively fair that there's an expectation about Saldier imo. Time will tell.

The Saldier talk is based on both Willie and Ruby saying that, at 20/1, he was better value than Klassical Dream at 7/2 this far out.

When asked which he'd choose if they were the same price, it's KD every time for Ruby.

There ya go.... Klassical dream bubble burst already?. Saldier to get cut to a stupid price for CH by bookies in the next few mins [emoji849]

Making it a hurdle over 2m4f should attract more horses in readiness for the new Intermediate Champion Hurdle at the Festival I'd suggest. Sorry couldn't resist!

Good ride by Henry Brooke but shocking from Barry Geraghty. I would be furious if my jockey had sat that far off the leader in that ground.

I thought exactly the same - shocking decision by Geraghty on that ground. Great for Hammond and his team though.

That race is primed for

A) a failed chaser to go back over hurdles

B) top novice to be very bravely aimed upwards

C) mare to take it in

Going to swim against the tide here.

If it was Geraghty's fault, you could expect Buveur d'Air's CH price to have remained the same after the race. He has drifted and it might be that now is the time to back him for the Champion.

If Cornerstone Lad hadn't run there he would have beaten the rest as easily as expected. Had Buveur d'Air been gaining ground hand over fist but not getting there on time, then yes, Geraghty would have clearly mistimed reeling in the outsider. The thing that you can really criticise Geraghty for is making up the ground too quickly in that ground, (the mistake at the second last didn't help (made a mistake at the same hurdle first time round)). But B'dA and Geraghty got the to leader at the right time, jumped the last upsides and clearly led. The leader who looked to have kicked round the bend battled harder than expected. Running the race against Bd'A would be long odds on, but think there is a good deal of overreaction here.

Wasn't Barrys finest few minutes but not entirely his fault either.

He may have actually helped the horses chance later in the season by not giving him too hard a race, especially as the horse is reported to have sustained a cut and therefore was to some extent running injured.

I never even looked at Cornerstone Lad's form before him the race, but then I never had a bet in the race.

He is a very consistent and progressive hurdler in his own right.
