Your eyesight isn't what it was, Eleonora. Gosden in fact has five Frankel two-year-olds listed rather than three.

By contrast, Roger Charlton has only three Frankels according to Horses In Training but his website reveals that this has now risen to five. Given that he trained Frankel's dam, this seems somehow appropriate.

No trainer has more than five Frankel juveniles. Haggas and Simcock have four each, Stoute, Varian and Palmer three.

Thanks, Col.

The first 2yo race of this season at Curragh saw a decent figure..91 for Mr Trader ....and won comfy...a similar figure to State Of Emergency;s speed figure last year..that one won a decent early race last year afterwards so it might auger well for another win for this years winner before the bigger guns start coming.

So up to press these are the fastest 2yo's of the season:)

91+ Mr Trader
75 Comhghairdeas
68 Callender

These were recorded on Heavy Ground..-44 lengths per mile slow

Looks like Johnston has hit the ground running again..if todays 2yo winner is only one of his lower lights then he must have some ammo, We have a new fastest 2yo with Mr Trader only leading for a week.

Sutter County
goes to the top with a 97 speed rating after winning by 9 lengths..more to come as was pretty green.

Not casting aspersions but the Johnston 2-y-os look as if they came out of the mould as Wesley Ward uses.

All of them being at least a size bigger than their opponents and looking like men/women against boys/girls.

He'd rate even higher on my figures, EC, although I'm pretty sure my scale is different to yours in any event.

He comes out 25lbs better than the 78-rated winner of the 5f handicap later on the card. He was eased down, there's no reason to think he won't transfer this form to turf and it's not fanciful at all to see him already as a realistic Royal Ascot contender.

i use the 0-140 scale that OHR's are on Gus..but i don't use the wfa scale the same as they do..or mine would be higher too..i use same wfa scale every year so i know where i am with them.

On my figures a Royal Ascot 2yo needs to run or show something like a 108+ on debut..or higher incl wfa..on 2nd run...last year Buratino ran a 100 fto..which is a decent debut..if i see a debut near 110 before Ascot i take notice. I didn't back Buratino at Ascot as by that point i'd others with bigger figures.

any 2yo that can run 3 figures on debut is decent on my figures

Sutter County is decent because he was so green and must improve a fair bit on that

you know what its like though..after a month or 2 there will be quite a few 2yo in the 90's before Ascot and it all starts getting much of a muchness unless you get a stand out figure

They're electric out of the stalls as well, Colin. A huge part of a trainer's job and nothing to do with size.

Johnston can be a difficult trainer to follow but there's no denying that he's adapted superbly to the change in the nature of his intake last season and this.

they haven't been well drawn either..but still led as you say Gus

he clearly has this early 2yo scene off to a fine art now..they are fit and ready to racce whereas you get loads of..well just give em a nice introduction jobs..he's doing a martin pipe with em by the looks of it..get em fit and paying from day one

i took an absolute hammering laying the second one at odds on-my interpretation of the market was that Hannons and the one that Cathy Gannons were fancied-they were but the winner won easily.
I wouldn't say he has it down to a fine art on the basis of 3 winners in 2 days and the layer in me says his next 2yo will be artificially short.

he won with his first 3 last year as well

The three winners were different gravy -great for punters in the know and following in blindly. The two today were the first European runners for Helmet -I wonder if he was instructed to do that to promote the sire.
If Aidan O' Brien saddled 3 easy 2yo winners in the last week in March I suspect John Magnier would be having a word.

Great stuff EC1.

Have you looked at the Cork times? Harzand has a Derby entry, the trainer doesn't throw them around.

Not only blind but also not paying attention. Missed Helmet out altogether.

According to my failing eyes Johnston has the 2 you know about, Hannon and Haggas have one each.

I wonder where the other 65-75 are?

Hannon has a Helmet called Kreb's Cycle (for MPR) that is going very well - will probably start off over 6 though.

 actually now I've looked again Hannon has two more (so 3). One of the others is called Mr Tyrrell. I'm not very good at this!!

There are quite a few for sale at Newmarket in the Breeze Up Sales
