The 2022 Derby Thread

According to the Post Bluegrass will be Aidans sole representative in the Dante.

If Point Lonsdale goes he goes straight to the derby.

A moth is along time in politics and plenty time to be finding the Derby winner.

It certainly wont be Stone Age 5/2 IMO he looks decent but a far cry from what you would expect a Derby winner to look like in action.

He definitely lacks the WOW! factor.

Desert Crown 7/1 looks to have more potential than the O'Brien horse

Magesterial is 40/1 for the Derby but only 11/4 for the Dante..wierd

Changingoftheguard was very impressive when making New London look slow but he in turn finished 6 lengths in front of the 3rd

Changingoftheguard EW 10/1 BFE looks the safest bet to me

And what piece of Desert Crown form shows this?

Matt Brocklebank (sporting life) put DESERT CROWN up at 25/1.

I've done EL BODEGAN 25/1 last time it ran it beat Stone age.

And what piece of Desert Crown form shows this?

What has his form got to do with it at this stage?
It's all about him and the way he handled himself for a young horse
and from that point of view the possibilities are endless.

We saw Stone Age's limitations in the Criterium and he's definitely no Nijinsky but Desert Crown who is unexposed could be.

Could is obviously a very big word but Michael Stoute obviously thinks a lot of him

And what piece of Desert Crown form shows this?

His only race was pretty good and he ran it 2secs quicker than Walk of Stars managed in Div2 of the event which followed, so not to be sneezed at completely.

If Desert Crown can win the Dante and beat El Bodegon impressively who defeated Stone Age in the Criterian
that would set the cat among the pigeons and you won't get a sniff at 6/1.

As far as Aidan O'Brien goes he is not to be trusted as he doesn't seem to know what he's doing when it comes to the Derby.
He keeps winning the damn race with what appear to be no hopers while the shorter priced ones run like drains

The last really top class horse to win the race was Golden Horn and the only horse that might be in his class is Desert Crown
The others all seem too exposed to be getting excited about.

Would be a lovely gesture but I doubt she would accept. Aren’t hers always homebreds?

1909 Derby winner Minoru was bred by William Hall Walker at what is now Irish National Stud and gifted to King Edward VII.
Hall Walker gifted him the farm after, until Irish government purchased it in 1941.
Good old Ml Osborne when manager ,filled in a US Customs form using Irish National Stud as his address.
The helpful customs official told him that space was for his address , not his occupation !

The winning most trainer in the race. **** me.

Really Slim....can't you think outside the box and take things how they are meant to be taken?

The last 3 time he has won the race has been a disaster for punters who follow him
Serpentine the 25/1 outsider of his entries won, Sir Dragonet R. Moore finished unplaced behind Anthony Van Dyck,
Cliffs Of Moher Ryan Moore gets stuffed by Wings of an Eagle 40/1
How can punters trust him if they don't seem to know which of theirs is best?

Desert Crown looked the business and could be anything but 2/1 to find out? No thanks.
I made my money backing him today and I'm keeping it

The Dante has never been the best of Derby trials although SMS does tend to run some of his best Derby horses in it.

Got to be something lurking in the backgroud can give this horse a race...no 2/1 shot in my book

You think? Last time I found money on the street was about 50 years ago:lol: Half a Crown it was:)

I just watched the Dante yet again and in the cold light of day I am less convinced we have seen any sort of wonder horse.

El Bodegon looked beaten and was being niggled at 3 to 4 furlongs out

Royal Patronage was sweating like a pig and wasn't taking too kindly to being held up. He wasn't exactly
pullomh his jockeys arm out but unlike Desert he didn't properly settle.

When asked the question Roral Patronage quickened past some slow horses but then looked to hit a wall

Desert Crown in the meantime didn't exactly scoot away from him and the others are going so slow that
Bluegrass who dropped to last 2 furlongs out past them to finish 3rd and he's only beaten 5 3/4 lengths,

Granted you can only beat what is put in front of you but he took too much time to do it IMO.

Of course he might improve but SMS said he was suprised he won so easily........that's something I wouldn't want to be hearing if I was backing him at 2/1

He was surprised he wom so easily because he'd been held up in his work, and it was only the 2nd race of his life.Anyone who can't see significant improvement in him, both for the experience and the extra distance,is also ignoring SMS's method of training.
Sit back, soak him in, and watch his price tumble up to the day.

I watched it back again and it was a very good run. He’s still learning and SMS is the ultimate when it comes to the Derby. He’s going to come on again from that run and his temperament seems to be unfazed. I do like Stone Age and was impressed with his last run. Likewise I thought Star of India had a lovely gritty attitude. But DC looks to have the most amount of improvement in him.

The brother has texted me to remind me that the Timeform HTF book, in its 'Classic Ante-post' section put up Desert Crown at 40/1 and Stone Age at 50/1, to add to Coroebus for the Guineas at 5/1.

He knows how to rub it in...
