The 2022 Derby Thread

The brother has just been on the phone.

He has Stone Age at 40s, Eydon at 33s and Star Of India at 33s.

He's not unhappy.

(I'd be laying them off to no risk.)

Do you mean the excessive amount of white froth? Some horses “mouth” more than others. If you were doing dressage, the more mouthing and white stuff the better as it means they are accepting the bit properly. I do agree that it’s not something you often see with racehorses but it wouldn’t worry me.

FWIW I think he’s the Derby winner on that run. I was super impressed. I liked Star of India after the Dee Stakes as I felt he had a really gritty attitude. My ex has been all over Desert Crown since the Nottingham run but he forgot to back him on my account...... I haven’t actually seen the run yet so I can’t comment. He did back Walk of Stars for me but after yesterday and all the wandering around, although I see obvious potential and improvement, I struggle to see him being happy at Epsom on the camber.

Any chance Coolmore or Godolphin will lease a Derby runner to The Queen for the day given her celebrations ?
J Magnier spoke of his disappointment when Carlton House was pipped that time .
Stone Age very impressive for sure; I always like a horse that is uncomplicated.

The brother is very shrewd!

I'm not going to let him know you said that. He gives me enough gyp as it is. It's just a shame family ties don't have an 'ignore' facility

But, as I said before, for someone who doesn't study form and just reads between the lines of what he reads in the Timeform 50 books, he does very well. He also interprets the visuals well.

What was the Coolmore Ballysax winner last year or the year before that was so impressive but ultimately didn't win?

IMS, I urged caution at the time...

Could this be another?

The Queen taking cast offs from the Irish. Have you read a history book?

Would be a lovely gesture but I doubt she would accept. Aren’t hers always homebreds?

DO do you mean Bolshoi Ballet? IIRC he was badly struck into in the first furlong in the Derby which may have caused him to run below par.

What about all his below par runs after that? BB's par just wasn't that good

Good luck to Slim but Stone Age has won the same trial and has a similar pedigree. Red flag.

BB it was.

I recall farting against thunder in downplaying the form at the time.

I haven't seen Stone Age's race let alone analysed it so can't comment on it for now.

I think comparing horses like that is not helpful. French Claim is a group horse and couldn't get to the lead. This was a different level from Bolshoi Ballet. 4/1 was a rick.

Yes, it was a good performance and another good ride by Moore. I'd say it was better than BB's.

I'd put him on 117p for that and, like most of O'Brien's, he'll probably improve again.

Right now, though, I wouldn't be rushing to back him. We saw what happened with Luxembourg. Then there's the Dante and one or two other trials still to come.

As for the Derby trip, his dosage suggests it will be ideal for him:

(IRE) b. C, 2019 {1-x} DP = 4-2-20-12-0 (38) DI = 0.73 CD = -0.05[/SIZE]</center>

Perhaps Simon Rowlands will do a stride analysis to back up his stamina prospects.

Just on the Dante. That can work in my favour. The Stoute horse has it all to prove. It could end up being a deep enough race.

The Post have also given a rating of 117 for yesterday's performance. It seems a fair enough mark while being slightly on the cautious side, but your 'p' takes care of that.

Fair. This was just my initial take when I saw the price crash.

I'd worry that RM's not booked for the Stoute horse; Aidan doesn't seem to have much of interest?
