The 2025 December Gold Cup Handicap Chase

Colonel Harry is only up 4lb for winning the Grand Sefton and I'd have him market leader for this (which he isn't) if I knew he was running.

Not started a "Decfolio" yet, though.

Decfolio, done dusted and punted Jagwar 11/2, Colonel Harry 12/1 Es perfecto 33/1.

Fwiw its worth Colonel Harrys trainer said it was either the Becher or this as his next race and he was withdrawn from the becher so although not concrete it seems like this is the plan. Slightly more worried that Jagwar won't turn up again.

The price that jumps out at me is Matata 33/1.
Probably his win in the Fitzdares is a bit overrated but he's capable of winning under top weight.
Should add: he's also entered this Sunday at Kelso

Entry next Saturday - 2.05 Cheltenham

Which one you talking about Reet all 3 of mine are only showing being entered for for this according to RP. 1.50 Cheltenham Saturday.

Venetia has shown she can still train a winner today with Djelo.

I want to see Martator in the confirmations tomorrow. He improved a stone and a half on official ratings last year, and his last performance was a step in the right direction. I'd probably want decent ground for him and nothing too testing over this sort of trip, so I'll keep a check on that.

Don't think PN has given up on Tahmuras yet. Would have needed the run LTO, and maybe the trainer underestimated how much.

This would seem a likely (early-mid) season target. And is languishing at the bottom of the odds table at around 66 (and in the low 100s BF). Chance he could still carry a fair few of these round. He won't mind if it's deep.

Your Favourite Uncle Smart Arse still likes Colonel Harry and a weights rise of 5lb or more would bring Kim Roque into YFUSA's calculations also.

But YFUSA will wait for tomorrow's confirmations, or maybe even Thursday's final declarations before getting involved.

It's a NR aversion thing.

There is absolutely no need to thank YFUSA for this - he's all about helping the less fortunate (which is pretty much everyone tbf).

I really thought this was my Cheltenham ew banker last March at a big price so I'm still hopeful he will come back to form.

Not confirmed this morning, by the looks of it. I'm interested to see where he does turn up - like you I would fancy a punt on a revival.

My 3 made it safe and sound although at least 2 of them will immediately bite the dust if the ground comes up as testing as it was for paddy power meet so I wont hold my breath.

Cheltenham has announced that Saturday's December Gold Cup, the feature race of the two-day December meeting, will be renamed in honour of racing commentator John Hunt and his family.

The £125,000 contest will be staged as the Support The Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup this season to get behind the initiative established by John and his daughter Amy in memory of Carol (John’s wife and Amy’s mother), Hannah and Louise Hunt (John’s daughters and Amy’s sisters), who were killed in July 2024.

Amy Hunt said: "Cheltenham have been so supportive to both Dad and myself, and to run Saturday’s big race in honour of Mum and my sisters, acknowledging their amazing lives as well as driving forward the support for women of all ages, is a wonderful gesture.

"Dad has been coming to Cheltenham all of his adult life; he loves the place and will be commentating on the race for BBC Radio 5 Live. It'll be an honour for us all to be there to present the prizes for such a fantastic race."

The fund has been created to raise money for charities that help and inspire young women, and Cheltenham is also staging a fundraising event for the family – the Carol, Hannah and Louise’s Winter Wonderland Fundraiser – on Thursday.

Money raised on the night will go towards the fund, while a silent auction has also started and will close on Thursday evening. Bids can be placed here.

Cheltenham chief Guy Lavender added: "John and Amy Hunt are two outstanding people, and how they have faced the world with such courage, dignity and resilience since the tragic events of July last year is truly humbling.

"The team at Cheltenham wanted to assist The Hunt Family Fund in any way possible and hopefully by running the feature race of the Christmas meeting as the Support The Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup in 2025, we can help to highlight the important causes which the fund is helping and also provide a fitting tribute to another three outstanding people – Carol, Hannah and Louise Hunt."
