The 2025 Lincoln Handicap

Had an eye on Talis Evolvere for this for some time. Don't look too many proper classy performers, so a strong Class 2 handicapper could take it. If Witch Hunter goes to the Doncaster Mile (which seems likely) that leaves Talis as Hannon's runner.

Think the Lingfield race at the end of Feb was just a tick-over. More interested in the Newcastle form a year ago to the day (come Lincoln day) where TE showed significant-sized balls to prevail over the toughish Newcastle mile.

Equally, the Goodwood race on 2nd Aug saw a good run, making ground from the back on the inside only to snatch up about a furlong out. Was still last 3f out. May well have finished a lot closer to Toimy Son there and seems nigh on sure to have broken away with Toimy and Holoway Boy. The Newcastle run says he'd have battled hard against those two.

There were a few other reasonable runs last season, one or two over shorter and the mile seems best.

Likely to encounter no problems like that one at Goodwood over the straight Donny mile.

Big, strong horse that the stable thought might win a good one last summer. 50-1 Hills and BF Sportsbook looks attractive enough. Mid 70s on the exchange.

Could pay to wait a bit, there is currently no news published anywhere on well being. But the Lincoln does seem an appropriate target.

The EW double with Beauport (and one or two others) beckons.

Do fillies have much of a record in this race?

Because another longshot worth a mention, who I think could kick on again this season is Arisaig.

She ran some nice races last season, generally progressing throughout the summer, and ran well in some big field handicaps, including her 8th in the 30 runner Sandringham.

Don't get me wrong, I know she needs to have improved loads over the winter, but she's not alone in that regard.

She's also entered in a listed race on Saturday at Kempton, but I'm hoping the fact that the only two bad races she's run, were in a listed race at Deauville as a two year old, and at the end of last season, in a small field listed event on heavy ground at Newmarket, might mean they run her at Doncaster.

Have bet Two Tempting @ 40/1
Won a similar classy 1m h'cap (Sandown g/s) last June, and the icing on the cake was his nice warm-up in the Lincoln trial.

I haven't really been keeping track but I just checked the latest going report and it's saying good-to-soft, soft in places. I wasn't expecting that. I'd expected they might have been watering given the dry spell we're going through.

I wasn’t either.

This is the weather detail from BHA website. Soft in places has appeared since last Friday, but only 4.2mm rain since then and no watering shown.

I've nearly finished my look through the race and in addition to the one I referred to earlier I've found another at a really nice price so I'm now looking forward to the final decs in the morning. I don't want to dive in now just in case they have other races in mind.

With the form you are in Ian I won't be letting Orne go unbacked!

My one Arisaig taken out of the listed race at Kempton, so I'm hoping she might have been declared for this.

My big fancy for this has also been declared. I'm just waiting for the betting to come up so that I can get wired in.

My lesser fancies have also been declared so I should have at least three running for me.

Looks like the bookies are in default shite-it mode.

Only one or two are putting up their prices for the Lincoln and when I tried betting mine via the RP link it didn't register. When I went to the bookie's site it wasn't giving any links to Saturday's UK cards.

I want on my selection before the price absolutely crashes (which I expect it to).

Does anyone fancy Old Cock? 🤣

See, I've just done something there that Racing Post wouldn't dare to do.

It would be easy for us to put together a Dick-Emery-Ooh-You-Are-Awful/Carry-On-Riding type of threads.

(Reminds me of the very old joke that AC repeated on here a wee while back about the attractive woman going into the bar and asking the barman for a double-entendre.

He gave her one.)

Ocean of dreams in the Spring mile. Suppose I must have a look at that.
Couple of things. Wonder why they're persisting with Beringer. Two runs in the last 5 years ( nearly ), at the age of 10 ? We know he's no 100/1 shot on past exploits.
Galeron was only a head off Charyn in the Irish Guineas on good ground.
