The Champion Chase 2010

Having taken the 6/4 (for the Champion Chase) this morning in anticipation of a big run today, I just have to consider the pros and cons of laying off at odds-on...

Looked back to his best today and I still think he's a 180+ horse at his best.

No - think he's a genuine top class horse, pretty sure he had problems throughout last season but was still winning top races over decent horses. Now they've sorted out his problems and he's come right back to his best :)

I've just had a look at the full result.

Mahogany Blaze and Fix The Rib appear to have run very close to the relative difference I had between them on my ratings going into the race, so I'm inclined - at this stage - to take the result pretty much at face value.

Master Minded has given MB a 24lbs beating, despite clouting the last and being eased on the run-in. He's given FTR a 21lbs beating. Worst case scenario: MB has run to its OR 150, so MM would be 174++ for today. FTR running to OR 156 puts MM on 177++. RPRs had MB on 157, putting MM on 181++; they have FTR on 160, putting MM on 181++.

I reckon those figures are conservative.

MM wins the Champion Chase barring mishap.

I never look at them to be honest DO. I can't see how FTR has ever run to 160. I know it ran well at Ascot a couple of times in the Autumn but the form of those races hasn't really worked out that well.

But FTR was pitched into Grade 2 company next time against Petit Robin and Well Chief, Master Medic next ran in the King George and the well beaten third came out and hacked up by thirteeen lengths.

I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree here. I've been of the opinion that MM apart the two mile division has been rank since Moscow called it quits.

The Grade two FTR ran in was really weak. I'msingingtheblues was beaten a hell of a lot further by Kalahari King receiving weight last saturday than he was by Petit Robin that day.

That well beaten third was Cornas who goes particulary well at Exeter. I don't think you could call that win a massive form boost.

It was great to see him back and travelling with all his old glorious menace just as it was sad to see what a shadow of his former self VPU has become .

Kalahari King to chase him home I think .

It was indeed sad to see VPU run so poorly, he doesn't seem a patch on the horse he was.
