The Derby

Given the second was sweating badly beforehand, I'd fancy him to turn the form around. I also reckon Cliffs Of Moher is an honest price for The Arc. He might be better in a bog? :)

Aidan likes his good horses to sweat up before a race-Highland Reel is a good example.

Great interview by Padraig Beggy on RUK just now; catch it if you can.
My wife would much rather listen to him on TV than AP or any other jockey !

It's an unbelievable story-tenth ride of 2017,26th since this day last year.3 years ago he was riding at the lowest level in Australian horse racing.

Why does Moore tend to get so far back on these AOB horses in the Derby ? He did it last year as well is it because they go too fast up front or because they are inexperienced . Frankie was in the perfect position .

Once again, Coolmore made a bollox of the pace, with the leaders hareing off, then slowing around Tattenham Corner. RM must have been aware of the plan, and rode his horse accordingly.
For mine, both 2nd & 3rd ran green, and will improve again for the experience.

The winner will end up being underrated but for me he has absolutely gagged up.

Watch the race again he's been stopped in his run twice. The jockey took a pull to. He absolutely travelled like the best horse in the race to my eye and I'll be backing him wherever he turns up next at a bigger price I'm guessing than he should be. If he hadn't won people would be saying the right horses have come home in the right order.

Underestimate this horse at your peril.

On the pure evidence of today's race it's difficult to argue with that. But unless the winner has improved dramatically they are all average. I'd consider backing him against other 3yos but probably not against his elders.

Bollocksed it up enough just for 1st and 2nd. That would get a British trainer a knighthood.

If I'd've paid more attention to the names of the jockeys riding I would have backed the winner, because it reminds me of Podrick[sp] from GoT's.

Even though they screwed the chances of the horse they expected to win it, and got themselves a further sire of Leger horses?
Plan executed to perfection. :D

It's as much about preventing other horses (potential competing stallions or progeny of competing stallions) from winning as it is about winning.

That's probably close to the truth, Sunspangled, but it's unedifying, and would be seen as cheating in some better regulated jurisdictions.

I wasn't implying anything untoward. I meant that their horse winning, even if he isn't a star or a potential stallion prospect, means that rivals on the potential stallion front (to Churchill for example) aren't winning.

Judged on yesterday's race, it would seem this year's Derby was mostly contested by Leger types, and with Cliffs Of Moher looking Eclipse bound, this year's King George could well prove another reprise of the Coolmore Cavalry charge.
Jack Hobbs might be the one to benefit.

As long as he heads there rather than taking in the Eclipse first (3 week gap makes both possible I suppose) I'd want to be with Frontiersman at the available 9/1 for that but if Enable turns up she'll be nothing like the 8/1 she is now, getting all the allowances.

Can't see anything from this year's Derby taking it.

Enable won't show up surely, she's a stonewall 12f beast. At current prices Mutakkayef looks interesting - would want to be against the 3yos.
