The Festival Bumper

I've backed Champagne James for this. I'd fancy him to reverse form with Union Dues given a fast pace to run at and his price makes him a nice e/w punt.

Think Empiracle is one hell of a horse...hopefully nice ground on the Wednesday and I can see this fella skating up. Scott knows where he's at with Melodic Rendevous also in the yard and he's been punted in recently.

Been trying to keep that one quiet

Was deliberately put away after winning at Huntingdon in October and strongly fancied I gather. Nick Scholfield says it's peaking nicely at home.

There will be an Irish horse in there somewhere that will be backed off the boards. tbh so many of their bumpers are a farce you wouldn't have a clue what te form is actually worth. I fell onto the winner in the last at Fairyhouse to today but I doubt if he was the best horse in the race..the jockeys could have got off and walked the first mile faster than the leaders went and the Mullins horse was pulling so hard you could have had the kitchen sink on him not getting home...it's like they are all sitting waiting on someone shouting go then they make a mad dash for home.

I much prefer to wait until the day and watching the market as I would rather trust the money than trust the form

If the forecast rain arrives Empiracle will be kept for Aintree

Lovely drying day today. Not sure any rain forecast will amount to much....wouldn't put much trust in John Kettley's forecasts anyway. The horse had a lovely spin round Exeter on Tuesday and, as far as we're concerned, is on course for Cheltenham.

I have a lot of respect for Kettley, but it is very early to be calling that much rain.

What is for sure is a dry (and drying) week from here to Tuesday next week.

It does look like rain alright next week. But a week is a long time in politics, sport and meteorology.

The important thing to remember is that both O'Briens horses today are absolutley useless. Any other trainer would have shot them. Talk of him upsetting ante post markets was fanciful. If they were any good they would at worst be racing in Hong Kong now or in Azerbaijan breeding.

Shield won today. .

Not to worry. I backed the other one and I think he was overtaken by some of the work horses doing their bit after racing.

That looked a very average bumper today. What concerns me most was the Wexford Machine Le Vent Dantan didn't work after racing because of the ground....it's going to be quicker at Cheltenham - I would advise anyone backing him at this stage to go NRNB

It does appear that not everybody was put away by Gary O'Brien's IDing of various horses after racing (or should I say misidentifying of horses) ;)

Why is Golantilla favourite? Beating trees at Cork on heavy hardly equates to Cheltenham on good. Not for me.
