The Festival Bumper

No one was crying last year when John Ferguson saddled the well fancied flat bred New Years Eve. If anything John Ferguson string of flat breds was a refreshing addition to the jumps scene. Sometimes I wonder if racing fans have a clue what they want.

I wouldn't have thought I could make it more obvious - John Ferguson has quickly established himself as a NH trainer, not a leading Flat trainer playing with the game.

I suppose in that case Willie Mullins shouldn't be winning races at Royal Ascot

The important thing to remember is that both O'Briens horses today are absolutley useless. Any other trainer would have shot them. Talk of him upsetting ante post markets was fanciful. If they were any good they would at worst be racing in Hong Kong now or in Azerbaijan breeding.

Cue card tipped up on here just before the festival was my best ever race to see. My legs turned to jelly

Don't think the AOB horses today were useless..or at least one of them anyway. The fifth was ridden as far wide as possible in the inside course at Punchestown. He'll win a race.

Trust me on this - useless.

Cue Card was 50/1 ..well all the better then. My sincere apologies to whoever did tip him up:D:D

OTB; that must've been a nice phone call to get..

I missed the Cue Card tip for the bumper, but was there on the day to see an amazing performance. I've backed in every race since and intend to be cheering him up the hill 3 weeks today...

Bumpers not really my thing, but I've had a dash at Le Vent D'Antan on the strength of the trainers bullishness yesterday. Seems as good an approach as any.

You have the very valuable support of Michael Fogarty, Nick. Brilliant amateur and rode my only winner at Chelt so good luck. He needs another race mind , 4yo.Liz Doyle the trainer had Al Ferof and Cheltenian pass through her accomplished hands. She rates this up with them. Do you remember when I was offered Cheltenian for £70 K just before his win at the festival

Can't remember this at all, Roddy - I always seem to get trousered beyond recall whenever I'm in your vicinity!

He certainly impressed at Leopardstown. Would anyone care to comment though on his stride pattern? He seems to me to have a high knee action and he slaps the ground quite hard.

Not sure if he'll go to champion bumper but told Hendersons Beat That today at Kempton is meant to be very very very useful

You've certainly found one from the right yard Grassy - as Roddy so rightly says.

Also Mikey Fogarty would be no negative - I know that Cantoris rates him, he's ridden a winner for Roddy and he won on a friend of mines horse at Fairyhouse today also.

Did everyone miss this horse when he ran - 14/1 was the top quote post race. That was nearly a month ago.

My impression was that he travelled very sweetly in his slower paces but when he was asked to quicken he did display a rounded action and yes both Course and ground would be a concern. These though are worries facing plenty of the opposition.

As regards the jockey one or two on here may rate him but how many wins has he had in open company? Clearly there are some very good amateurs in Ireland but even the best are not as good as the top professionals. I would suggest that the booking might not be negative in that he knows the horse but hardly positive either.
