Credit to Chapman for calling it a non-trier on TV this morning. He didn't use those exact words but we knew what he was saying.
 
By the way, did anybody else notice the ride High Expectations got in the County?

Clearly not being ridden to live up to its name.

I didn't back it so no pocket talking but I was happy to dismiss it as a potential danger after the first flight.

I did back Capitaine but need to see the race again. I'm not sure he was ever out of the last three or four. Maybe the Nicholls yard all had their money on the Skelton job.

I note with interest too the trainer's comment that it was an 18-month plan. In other words, go back and look at its runs since the start of last season...

I'll be keeping an eye on any Skelton hurdler that might have County aspirations that's been disappointing this season.
 
Just watching the Champion Hurdle again this evening, the unthinkable crossed my mind...

Was the other day the start of Brain Power's campaign to get him into next year's County off a mark closer to 150?
 
I hope I'm wrong (because I backed the horse yesterday) but I fear Addeybb will not be ridden to win today.

In my preview of the race I noted:

I’m very surprised that Sharja Bridge is overnight favourite. Addeyyb is top with me, RPRs and ORs so really should be favourite but he’s only third in the betting. He has to be value at the 4/1 generally on offer, let alone the 9/2 with Coral. First-time cheekpieces suggest they want a good run. James Doyle is hardly a negative.

But this morning, instead of seeing him blue across the board and down to 3/1 or less, he's pink across the board and 11/2 is freely available. I'll be keeping a close eye on how he's ridden today but I've as good as written off the bet already.

How many lengths was Solomon Grey behind Ifthecapfits again? What is Ifthecapfits rated now? My point being, overwhelming evidence tells me Solomon Grey is one hell of a well-handicapped horse on 135. If the Skelton yard have Solomon Grey fit, and ready-to-roll this season, he will win a Tote Trophy or a County Hurdle. Mark my words. Provided they don't go novice chasing..

Well, I suppose as a Solomon Grey fan it was good to see him win his novice chase yesterday by a dozen or so lengths. He is still only seven years of age, and could be a force to reckoned with over fences. Maybe it'll be third time lucky in terms of getting to run at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival, after missing handicap hurdle engagements in 2018 and 2019.

Maybe the horse bled or went wrong in some way but Kirby looked to me to start pulling back Now Children from early in the straight in that 2.15 at Ascot after travelling well through and into the race. The money (12/1 into 3/1) suggests he's showing plenty at home. It's doubtful he'd have won today anyway given how easily the winner did it but it looked pretty poor.

Bless Him wasn't off an inch there at York. I thought he'd need to go close to go up enough to get into the Hunt Cup but it was obvious from the start that today was all about the future. Murphy allowed him to amble out of the stalls and after a furlong must have been 20 lengths behind the lead and detached at the back. He was never asked a serious question all the way up the straight and Murphy even appeared to manoeuvre him in behind horses at one point to make sure he wouldn't get a clear run. Into the tracker but if the Hunt Cup is the target they might wait until the weights are published before picking up a penalty to get him in.
 
The race commentators are saying the gaps kept closing in front of Robin Of Navan there (5.25 Nwb) and Moore had nowhere to go but it looked to me like Moore was going to great lengths to hold it up until the race was over.
 
Forgive me for raising this again, but I'm really incensed by what I witnessed earlier.
Sure enough, I lost money on the race but, in all my years of watching racing, I've rarely seen a more blatant case of a jockey being determined not to win a race (Fire Fly, 6.00 Curr) http://rukarchive.vod.dc.video.performgroup.com/processed/mp4/2019_05/1564825.mp4#t=306,418 than I saw here.
Shame on Ryan Moore, and all those complicit in this fraud - particularly those Officials supposed to police such chicanery.

I watched the race & my thoughts are similar to yours. Galling but just have to move on, it's one of the imponderables I'm afraid. There are people making a living out there & sometimes those are the cards you're dealt with (BTW I bet it).

That makes it twice in fairly quick succession Moore has been mentioned on this thread.
