Special Portrait (6/1) was a winner of this contest in the past and looks set to go well again here. Decent ground and a real stayers trip is the key to this Northern raider and while narrowly touched off when last seen out at Sedgefield recently he should relish this extra trip and can get the better of the improving Connies Cross (16/1). The last named has experience having raced in Ireland prior to joining shrewd operator Sheila Crow and has looked like he’d appreciate a true test in his starts thus far with Crow unlikely to ask him to tackle a contest like this unless she thought he had a strong chance.

On recent pointing form Fergal O’Brien’s Tinelyra (33/1) should go well here. He comes out well on the ratings and with Fergal O’Brien’s strong record at this meeting he looks likely to step up markedly on his rules form here with the excellent Ali Stirling taking the ride in this concluding Lady Riders event.
Of the remainder Cottage Oak (16/1) remains a force to be reckoned with despite his advancing years and having finished third in the Foxhunters here a few years ago he is taken to show some of that old zest once more for handler Joe O’Shea and jockey Annie Dalton.

Sam Cavallaro @ 15/2 has been rejuvenated by the switch to Heidi Brookshaw’s Shropshire yard in the Spring. The ex-David Christie-trained gelding had some solid form in Ireland but was always finding the three mile trip and soft ground against him. His run behind Pacha Du Polder at Ludlow sets the standard form wise and his recent success in a three runner point augurs well for his chances here with the excellent David Noonan booked to ride.

:adore:

Cheers lads, Heidi is a top trainer and a lovely girl.

Amazing to see how she's got him back to his old Irish form and he cost next to nothing (almost literally).

I thought Connies Cross had that jumping the last - got a bit overexcited!

Only three winners, a 16/1 second, a 20/1 third, and a 13/2 second. Poor effort I reckon, if only we could find a hunter chase expert on here...

Martin - what are your thoughts on the favourite Quantativeeasing or even Josies Orders? Enda has a fantastic record in this race winning 11 of the last 16 races. So you have to respect that record, plus there's some Trainer called Willie and added to the mix are the Ryanair crew.

Uncle Junior looks like a solid ew bet, meets many trends and of course Willie has his horses in form.

What are your thoughts Martin?

Cheers edgt - I'd just finished penning this weeks Racing Plus column and got the word that Aldington on Monday is called off due to hard ground.

Had been looking forward to getting Did You Ever, and particularly De Waiting Game back out as latter has only had two runs and he unseated both times - off to Kingston Blount next Saturday instead now.
