Christ....5/2 Aba doesn’t half look big at face value.

The dogs must be barking for the jolly.

They are. I have both Abas and SR in my portfolio. Can't have Epatante (she won a worse renewal that Binocular's) or Goshen.

messy race the morgiana. saint roi mistake and lost position at a crucial time. happy to win on abra today but not feeling great on my antepost for him in march.

Crying out loud, I'm not one to be an armchair jockey but that was a shocker from Mark Walsh, got him in so many wrong positions and gave him far too much to do. Not his finest moment in the saddle that is for sure.

Blame the jockey as per lol.

Fact is the horse stopped travelling and hit a flat spot 2 or 3 hurdles from home, but then stayed towards the finish.

If it wasn't for Mark Walsh he wouldn't have finished as close as he did!

Jason The Militant there at the finish........overall if I was a Goshen fan which I am I'd be happy with today.

Off topic, is Supasundae being aimed at a handicap? Running so quickly and so badly for a horse that’s better than that is suprising, unless there is other motives at work.

As much as the race didn't suit SR, I'm pretty sure and am hoping we didn't see the best of the winner either. He was also left in front plenty soon enough. Not sure he should be out to 12s.

SR might be the moral winner of that, but he left be very underwhelmed today

I thought Abac was very good last year, perhaps because he was somewhat unfancied, his triumphs heralded more attention but Ruby called it well

Too early to call him gutless, but he doesn't relish that

nearly an 11 year old. might just be feeling his age. especially at shorter distances.

It was a slow run messy race, and other than showing horses were fit and well there wasn't much to be learned from it. Horses should neither be cut or lengthened off the back of that.

Saint Roi and Abacadabras clearly would have benefited from a proper gallop, and the lack of was why Jason The Militant was on the premises. Aba finally proved to the doubters he can get his head down and that he lacked fitness on his first run so that's the positives for him, and Saint Roi was given an absolute shocker of a ride and he still nearly had the class to win.

In summary you can't write either off, but it didn't help in any way to see how either may measure up to each other or to Epatante. Their next runs are the ones to watch.

Depends who makes it to Leoparstown, Paul. Tactically, you might see something similar play-out over Xmas, given how few really decent 2m hurdlers there seem to be in Ireland.

I’d be looking for JP to stick a couple of hares in the race, to make sure Saint Roi gets a good pace to aim at.

I’m actually not that disappointed SR was beaten. Despite the absolute shocker Walsh gave him, he has (for me, anyway) confirmed he’s every bit as good as the Supreme second, and is right in the mix for all the Grade 1 hurdles at the minimum trip.

Onwards and upwards.

Spot on Nick. If Willie doesn't put something in to make the pace Gordon will. Neither will make the same mistake again. And yes Saint Roi is definitely a Grade 1 horse, but I think we believed that anyway.

Much as I like Saint Roi I also think Abacadabras is under-rated and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the placings repeated.
