I didn't know gimme shelter was released as a single but you are probably right

Jacksons show me the way would be my choice of theirs. Mate who's been to many many gigs of all sorts said that when they opened with that at one concert it was the best moment he had ever seen live

Pedant Alert

In the opening post, I have to question if The Killing Of Georgie and Sympathy For The Devil were, in fact, single releases?

It's impossible you need a top 100 as when I was 14 I'd probably have all the old rock stuff but as time went on I'd have to have 80s/90s especially as golden era of music.

Can remember the excitement when the Beach Boys released one of their singles [I should remember which one it was but I think it was Good Vibrations] and everyone was saying how ground breaking it was but I didn't like it. Then, of course there was I Wanna Be Your Man which was released as a single by the Stones but writen by the Beatles [they used to liase with each other when it came to releasing singles, or so I've read]. But my al time favourites were 'For Your Love' by the Yardbirds and 'See Emily Play' by Pink Floyd. I'm ashamed to say I can't think which songs were singles and which were album tracks. But it's great fun reading these lists! My mum wouldn't let me have a record player as she said we couldn't afford to buy records so she bought me a transistor radio instead so I could listen to Radio Luxembourg [she was right; thanks mum]. The Smiths passed me by completely as did The Stone Roses.

Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - The Smiths
The Boy with a Thorn in his Side - The Smiths

Sloop John B - Beach Boys
What Time is Love - The KLF
French Kiss - Lil Louis
Wouldn't It Be Nice - Beach Boys

I get a feeling that some lists are a bit chocker with singles that didn't quite make the top 500. Or 5000

Should have stated top 30.

Then, of course there was I Wanna Be Your Man which was released as a single by the Stones but writen by the Beatles [they used to liase with each other when it came to releasing singles, or so I've read]

They were very good friends. But i am pretty sure this was the only liason between the two groups. Apparently it was written in... 15 minutes

My two replacements for Rod and the Stones album tracks

One nation under a groove - Parliament
positively 4th street - Bob dylan

But would change again tomorrow probably

I listened to that Bored of canada stuff just to give it a go. Its ok i suppose. Bit grim though

Reach for the Dead comes from an album that is trying to evoke a post-apocalyptic vibe,

Fair enough. Sounds like fun. Just the thing for a friday night

I would still veer towards Chics Good times myself

I was more a few drinks, good laugh and get a nice shag rather than pondering what it would be like after a nuclear war

I wonder if music tastes reflect personalities?

I didnt know many people that were into the smiths but i would say that they were shortest odds to be found under the tube at earls court

Can relate this to classical

Mozart is very extrovert and i think very sexual. A bit up and down too
Beethoven a little more introvert. Maybe a lot more
Bach is always seems to be razor sharp. Level headed and brilliant
Mahler is not exactly a barrel of laughs

and so on
