TV coverage

Francesca Cumani - "Paul Townend, not sure if those tactics were by accident or by design".

You could design a bot to make more sense within a couple of hours.

She is and yet has a job. Seriously cannot think of one thing she adds to the 'job'.
Same old ITV : not enough of the horses. Only concentrate on top two /three in the betting irrelevant of how many actual runners.
Cross Country: Tiger Roll, Tiger Roll, Tiger Roll, Tiger Roll . Delta Work class horse Delta Work class horse.
That was it. There were no other runners. First time some of them got a mention was from Hoiles in the commentary.

Megan Nicholls.....her voice is starting to grate on me. I spoke to her father on Wednesday after the other daughter won a point to point and he told me Megan was keen to develop her media career....oh dear.

Her voice isn't as grating as Leoni Mayor's (or whatever her name is).

Adele Mulrennan does quite well in terms of the balance of voice and delivery. Shame about that outfit she's wearing today.

Speaking from the experience of over 40 years of marriage, it seems incredibly difficult for women to settle for a small range of suitably smart outfits...

I've got one suit for every day of the week.

(And I wear it every day of the week...)

No misogyny intended.

Started on me a while ago.. she's very annoying. Doesn't really bring anything and another one of those that if the name was Smith wouldn't have a job on tele. Yes I bet she's keen, easy money.

This a minor point but I don't understand the need for women on tele to wear something different every time they are on the screen? Why? Men don't and no one cares. It's the same in whatever sphere they appear and I really don't know why. I bet they get an allowance as well, but why?

Apparently it is self inflicted stereo typing.
I remember one male newsreader saying he wore the same suit for 12 months and nobody noticed.
Had his female worn the same outfit twice she might have been replaced due to public reaction, or so he thought.
Jane Mangan gets away with it however, and rightly so.
Smart lady, smart outfit.

It seems to be the way it is.

As a retired HoD in teaching, and in Modern Languages, I can count on one hand the number of male colleagues I had. One - of Italian extraction - was particularly fussy about about what he wore. The rest were like me - wear what you have, including the women, and none was ever anything less than professional bar one, with whom all I needed was a quiet word in her ear, so I don't get this need for ongoing wardrobe challenges.

Even the BBC weather women - I'm secretly in love with Carol - tend to wear the same thing every few days. So why do the TV racing women feel the need to never wear the same thing twice? Is their wardrobe allowance so generous, or is it a contractual thing, supported by a generous wardrobe allowance?

And why the fvck are we even discussing such trivia??

DO, you're right what are we doing discussing presenters' wardrobes when we should be asking why Olly (sp?) Bell, who seems to be totally unaware of how feckin awful he is, seems to be well thought of by ITV Racing?

It's TV, so when it comes to presenters it's 90% viewer appeal and 9% substance.

Chapman falls into the remaining 1%, ie the obligatory wanker. Persad probably overlaps the 90% and 1% groups.

My understanding is that OB is apparently deemed eye candy to a large percentage of the female viewing figures (and probably to some men too).

I don't mind Adele Mulrennan. She's growing into her role. But give me the Mangan woman over Mayor or NIcholls any night of the week (and twice on a Sunday). Sorry, that should read "day"...

Probably because they get paid to do so.

The RTE coverage from the Curragh was very good today. Ruby Walsh, Jane Mangan, Fran Berry and Emmett McNamara were the main presenters, with Brian Gleeson covering the betting ring and parade ring interviews. They were better off without their usual anchor who happily was on other duties today.

Ruby did give Gleeson quite a slagging when the latter's horse, Raise You, won the Listed Orby race on the card in very good style. I thought his behaviour was a bit ignorant, to be honest ("why didn't you tell us all beforehand", "of course you know where he's going next", etc).

But they didn't shirk the latest drug-related story in Ireland, the big fine issued to trainer Kieran Cotter, a trainer of sprinters with a rising profile, after his horse Slade Runner was found with excessive quantities of cobalt its system after a race at Dundalk. An inspection at his stables a few weeks later found that Cotter had not been maintaining a medicines register and remains of animal remedies and used syringes were found at a bonfire site on the premises ( https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/racing/arid-40875557.html ) .

Check out Eugene O'Donnell interview with Kevin O'Ryan on Racing TV after his horse Realtin Fantasy won Tipperary maiden this evening.
If this does not cheer you up, check your pulse.

True, it was the first time I’ve seen an interview being let continue while a race was on

Steve Cauthen :<3:
Just loving him being on today. Of course I had a serious crush on him from the age of about 13 (he was 16) and was intent on marrying him once I had let my pony know he wasn’t the intended....
I actually met Steve on several occasions, the first time being after he won the Derby on Reference Point and I was Secretary for a Charlie Nelson. Steve rang from Epsom to say he was coming back to Lambourn and invited Charlie out to dinner so I was invited too. I told Charlie of my crush so of course he wound me up and plied me with so much alcohol by the time Steve arrived, we were plastered and I was confident enough to nearly propose.... I sat at dinner between Steve and my other hero, Johnny Francome...I was in seventh heaven!
I got to know Steve quite well over the next few years as he often popped to the yard and he is the loveliest guy (except we never did get married..). And many years later I bumped into him in Newmarket, he still remembered me and knew I had been working in the US. A top class guy.

I had a dilemma today - I normally watch the big days on RTV but that was not an option today with the summer jumps nonsense so ITV it had to be. Cauthen's presence has saved their coverage.

Charlotte's outfits are a class apart from the usual festival my-big-fat-gypsy-wedding rigouts so many women wear.

Almost worth watching for the fashion breaks.
