Un de Sceaux

The form is not suspect today for me
He run to 164p, solid form, considering I think he is a better horse over 2 miles ridden more agressively,
Top horse.

The proximity of Le Grande Luce suggests it's 160 at most (imo).

As you say, solid form, but a lot more would be needed for him to win a G1 2m Hurdle in UK or Ireland.

Making all to beat tin-pot horses over 2m on holding ground hardly suggests he has the speed to win a CH, does it? He's a stayer, and like many of WM's before him, he's picking up a few nice prizes on the way to becoming one.
Don't take my word for it, just compare his last 2 performances - over the same c/d against more or less the same horses - and figure why he was a piece more impressive on heavy ground than yielding.

The fact that he has beaten French horses at Auteuil is hardly a negative.Ruby said he was worried about the distance of the race and I wouldn't be sure that he is an out and out stayer. They would be mad not to give him a Champion Hurdle preparation next season.

Fair acheivement for a jumps horse to win his first nine races-anyone know what the record winning sequence is for a jumper.

Bucks was not unbeaten from his debut though.
Unbeaten from debut run Bula won 13 until beaten by Happy Valley in his seasonal return in 1971/72.
Sir Ken won 16 successive hurdles plus one flat race on coming to England in 1950 but had beaten in his Auteuil debut when spotted by Willie Stephenson.

Think Ruby was more concerned about using him up too early (à la BG, lto) rather than the distance. He did say, after today's race, stamina isn't an issue.
He's clearly a very good horse, but they obviously know what they're doing, and I can't see him ever going near a Champion Hurdle.

Difference of opinion between Ruby and Willie regards hurdling and chasing next season by the sounds of it. I personally wouldn't give him a chance in a Champion if the 1st 3 home this year line up. He wouldn't get them off the bridle.

And ofcourse Vautour if he goes down that route. Different league all together.

Sorry suny but it's not that good. Ptit Zig beat the runner up just as easily and he's a 157 horse, no idea where you're getting 164 for yesterday. FWIW I think he probably can run to that figure but he hasn't in his last two runs and probably needs 2m and soft ground to show his best.

Fair play to anyone who had the foresight to back him at 10/1 but he's now evens at best.

Can't remember what price SS was at this stage but evens seems very stingy to me and some are only offering 4/5 but then where's the opposition?

I've seen some bad Arkles but this one looks desperate

Josses Hill would need to improve out of all recognition over fences and the way he jumps he wouldn't enjoy trying to keep tabs on this horse one little bit.
He has been a huge disappointment this year for a horse who looked to be crying out for a fence.

Then there's em:whistle:..........let me think  Err....then there is nothing

Did I say evens was stingy?? should be 1/4

Not so sure Benny I reckon I'll be laying mines off and taking the money if UDS wins.

I was a big fan of Vautour even thought he'd go hurdling instead of Faugheen(shows what I know) but that run and that mistake behind Clarcham gave me the willies. I know he won since but I refuse to watch it in case I change my mind.

He couldn't even pass Ted Veale who's a complete monkey and I just get the feeling he's a bit soft and the JLT is sure to be very competitive.

Don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm but I think he's the least likely of the Mullins hot pots to bring the bacon home

Lay @ 3 or 4 is too healthy a profit to pass up imo and he could be that short on the day

Anyone reckon there's a chance UDS might tip up?

Yes, unfortunately. He looks impossible to control into his fences - has to be ridden on a really tight rein all the time so that he doesn't disappear into the wild blue yonder and he takes a few chances. In every race he has looked a bit of a white knuckle ride. There also has to be a chance he'll completely boil over.

Sorry Muttley but I totally disagree with you on that score

That's about as good a round of jumping you are ever likely to see from a novice Bar SS's at Donnie.

He measure every fence spot on and while exuberant he was very happy bowling along and never making it difficult for Ruby at any fence

He got into a lovely rhythm and if allowed to do the same at Cheltenham they wouldn't see the way he went.

Of course he could get one wrong and fall he is only a novice but after that performance I'd have to say it is very unlikely

I agree about that round of jumping, Tanlic - it was very good but my worry is how he will cope with the variations (uphill, downhill, water jump, etc) in the Cheltenham fences. I hope to goodness he does, because he is so exciting to watch, but there is a chance that he won't.
