What are you backing Today? Part 2

I like the look of Monmiral in the Cleeve tomorrow. I haven't forgotten his easy Pertemps win last year at the festival. Crambo does look slightly better right handed, on what he's done so far anyway, and Strong Leader's Cheltenham form is not too smart either.

I'll take them on with Monmiral.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing To Chase A Dream in the last race at Doncaster. I hope he's up to it, class two company that is.

Nells Son is a fair enough price given he beat Matata last time. Maybe not one for the 'should be odds on thread', but a favourites chance, he must have at Doncaster tomorrow.

These are my big three for Saturday.

Have a great weekend everyone, by the way. I think it's a decent days action. Especially getting to see Conny.

Thankfully the storm today isn't happening tomorrow, eh.

My heaviest day's punting for some time. Stakes not particularly big but lots of races I've punted in:

Cheltenham:
Sauvignon (w); Stencil (ew); Victory Shout (ew)
Soul Icon; Happygolucky
Strong Leader
Wade Out w/o PC
L'Homme Presse x Potters Charm
L'Homme Presse x Potters Charm x Strong Leader

Doncaster:
Herbiers
The Changing Man; Tightenourbelts; Sure Touch

One of mine today, To Chase A Dream, backed as it defeat is out of the question in the last race at Doncaster.

It's not my money! He's gone from around 3s last night to even money.

Great chance though.

I can't have Gowel Road as fav for the Cleeve I have that between Crambo and Strong Leader. Rather than go for an expensive dutch I've put them both in doubles with Banbridge (nrnb) for the Gold Cup.

Have spoken to a couple of former colleagues from the betting industry and there are a number of horrible EW races today for the bookmakers, myself and a few pals have had the following bet.

4 x EW 4/Folds

1.22 Uttoxeter
Tchoupanminzac ..... 9/2

x

1.57 Uttoxeter
Ballyvango ..... 10/3

x

3.00 Cheltenham
Brentford Hope .... 9/1
Fils D'Oudairies ... 18/1

x

5.20 Wolverhampton
Fashionelle ... 12/1
Miss Applejack ... 14/1

We are only really chasing some place cash against the favs, the minimum place acca works out at just over 41 units if successful ...... the downside is if there is a NR in one of the 5 runner races and then the bet is basically dead.
Small stakes offers the potential of a nice return.

Thanks for the Ew recommendation for Stencil. Nice place money.

Cheltenham 1:50 - Ginny's Destiny 7/2, Il Ridoto 11/1, Gemirande 20/1, for four places and also done in 50p combination forecasts. All 3 are course and distance winners, and I've bet on Il Ridoto and Gemirande several times previously. The second and third of these are bigger prices than I would have expected on their disappointing runs last time, and Freddie Gingell is back on Il Ridoto today. The other c and d winner is Torn and Frayed which I have ruled out as it is an eleven-year-old.
Listening to the commentary of the 1:15 race and hearing that Sauvignon ( Paul Nicholls ) had been pulled up hasn't filled me with confidence.

I thought Happygolucky had suffered a career ending injury? ( memory might be playing tricks again).

L'Homme Presse x Potters Charm

I pretty much misread Stage Star today. This how I saw the race (prices and summary as of Thursday afternoon):

Evens might end up quite a generous price for L’Homme Pressé. I imagine Stage Star and Delta Work will be targeting the National. The latter is unlikely to have its mark dropped but a run round in third or fourth could get the Nicholls horse down a couple of pounds which might make him competitive at Aintree. This is his first try at the trip but he needs to have had a run at it and he needs to finish in the first four to qualify. Chantry House was back to his best last time but shouldn’t be good enough if the favourite runs his race, likewise Gentlemansgame.

I'm not sure L'HP was right at his best today given the stable's current form so it's possible the handicapper will leave Stage Star alone as far as the National, for which it's now qualified, is concerned but 159 is a hard mark to defy.

I thought for a second Monmiral was going to do it.
Yet another second placer for myself today.
I've had about 5 in my yankee.
Still, seeing Ian's fancy fall at the last at Doncaster was a real shame.
That was very unlucky.

Really bad punting day and some right strange performances. Time of year?
