What are you watching

I wanted to see that and also Oppenheimer but was put off due to length and no takers to sit through a long film with me.

Flask and sandwiches sound good plan. I have in the past taken my largest handbag and proceeded to produce a bottle of wine plus glasses and various accompanying snacks. Never been challenged by cinema staff and as we often go middle day, there are usually only a couple of others there who look on enviously at our picnic.

Oppenheimer is on Amazon now if you wanted to do it in stages :)

All the cinemas round here have a bar as well as snacks and reclining chairs so everyone is happy [emoji16]

Oppenheimer way too long and not that engrossng. If I had been at home I would have turned it off . Wished I'd gone to see KOTFM though as the trailer looked really good.

Well.
I sort of enjoyed it and was also disappointed.
Firstly Joaquin Phoenix is IMO badly miscast at Napoleon. He’s not short enough and doesn’t come across as a great man, rather a bumbling excuse of a man. His lack of attempting a French accent annoyed me. The intense love story between him and Josephine failed and was more intent on some titilating jack-hammering which prompted a couple to walk out. The chemistry just wasn’t there. The first half also seemed disjointed although it did warm up as his power increased.
The special effects are spectacular as you’d expect but I found the storyline hurried and it could have been so much better.

Watching the Nigella Lawson Christmas recipe show on BBC1 earlier with Bean Ui Capall I found myself remarking, unthinkingly, that

"It's hard to believe that she is the same age as you...."

If anybody has a spare room they'd like to rent I'll pay in advance and in cash.

The last time I saw Nigella [in the media] was when she was going through that difficult personal spell and wasn't looking at all well.

Then looking through the TV mag I saw the picture of her ahead of this evening's programme. At first I'd presumed it was an archive photo but the programme seemed up to date.

I've always thought she was a proper sh@g but decided to deprive myself of looking in on this evening's programme, being only a couple of days after making my Christmas-time confession.

Sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Mr Bates versus The Post Office -very Good.

Couldn’t agree more! Absolutely superb and actually incredulous that it has gone on for so long. You couldn’t fail to be heartbroken for what these innocent people have been through.

Very eloquent -my very good comment didn't do it justice.

Riveting and eye-opening TV that laid bare the Post Office's dirty tricks and their cheap-jack approach to properly compensating their victims.

Last night there were 550000 signatures on a petition to strip Paula Vennells of her CBE.This was television that made a difference.

You’re left angry and then bemused at how any semblance of common sense deserted the PO. It’s the modern day curse - the computer has said so, so it must be right. Shortly to be followed by- the AI bot has spoken, so you must obey.

I am Andrew Tate -documentary on Ch 4 last night. I knew very little about him before last night -I now know he is a scumbag pornographer and alleged rapist.Horrible individual.Worth a watch if you deal with teenage boys.

Just finished binge-watching the Jesse Stone films.

I recall watching one or two a couple of years back and exchanging a bit of banter with the brothers (who are fans) about its being "turgid" (my word at the time).

This time round, Mrs O gave up after three episodes, saying it was too slow. I stuck with it and am in two minds.

1. I still think it's very slow but I find myself still wanting watch it.

2. The dialogue strikes me as ultra-contrived but I find myself still wanting watch it.

3. The sequencing of the films in order of release makes following the chronology difficult but I find myself still wanting watch it.

4. I wish I had a dog of as fine a specimen as Reggie.

What’s incredulous is that she was a practicing church minister......with ZERO conscience! How any of those involved can actually sleep at night beggars belief. And what about the Fujitsu employees who knew what was happening?

Te bosses certainly seemed to have parked common sense to believe that thousands of their sub-postmasters had suddenly started ripping them off. I have a little bit of sympathy for them, though. When we were introducing new manual systems we knew the questions to ask to challenge the designers optimism and to judge their response. When it came to IT systems, however, we were IT illiterate so didn’t even know the right questions to ask let alone judge the response. Unless you are very careful that leads to over-trusting the IT bods and to the “computer is always right” syndrome.

Agree with a lot of this, particularly re Reggie, but they are quite well done and Selleck carries it off very well. Some nice guest spots as well. Shame they didn't make any more.

One of my brothers was a systems accountant in his working days and he, nor I , can believe that no one in a similar role didn't notice something must have been going wrong here and say something? I haven't been watching it so apologies if something such as this has been highlighted, but their auditors as well surely should have raised a red flag that suddenly all these people working for them were allegedly thieves, and for not inconsiderate sums in some cases.
