Will Altior Be Beaten?

He was fit. The ground was against him but I still don't think he stayed. There was a lot of changing legs coming into the home straight. Most worryingly he walked away extremely stiff and sore on his back end, and looking very sorry for himself. What that race really proved other than he doesn't get it, I have no idea. They will ruin him if they continue.

Turned out sound this morning and eat up everything according to NH on Luck On Sunday.

I'm not sure that Altior wants a trip. I don't think he would win a King George. I personally had reservations about them stepping him up in trip, just because of how good he is over 2 miles.

Not sure that Cyrname is necessarily the better of the two horses, just one is better over the minimum trip, and the other better of 2m 5f.

I haven't yet re-watched the race but what was going through my mind last night was the question of how often do Henderson odds=on shots lose prep races? Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm thinking there's been a few.

Did he train the 1/14 shot that got turned over a few years back?

Have any sectionalistas analysed the race?

if you mean Zaynar, he did at the time yes

Jinnyj, how fit did Altior look to you?

I got the impression they were sowing the seed afterwards that maybe he wasn't fit.

The final-furlong overdrive was certainly missing today.

Another thing, it isn't unusual for horses that are reported to have put up an incredible gallop not to back it up on the track. I just wonder if altior did too much in that gallop Hendo was raving about and kind of bounced today?

He looked well beforehand to me. But I’ve seen Hendos horses run first time out before and they’ve disappointed, we’ve written them off only for them to bounce back. My feeling is that the ground bottomed him. He was very, very tired in the unsaddling enclosure.

There is no way he will win a KG. I like Henderson but they have to be stark barking mad if they think he has any chance of winning it after yesterday.

Altior may stay the 3m but that doesn't mean he will be any more effective over it

I cannot see him having the kick needed turning in and like Azerty and many other 2 milers before him, will be seen with his tongue hanging out a mile from home

Yeah agree Granger, just run each horse over their optimum trip end of story.
The Clamour from press and public to step Altior up in trip was way over the top.
They don't call for Gold Cup winners to drop down and have a crack at the Queen Mum.

Someone somewhere mentioned Solomon Grey on this thread.

Entered up in two handicap chases at Kempton on the 26th and 27th. Over two different distances.

I will back him each way.
