Will Altior Be Beaten?

I'm disappointed Altior didn't win, but the best horse at that C&D won today. Simple as that.

Going forward, I wouldn't be writing Altior off back at 2 miles, no way.

Really want to see Cryname reproduce his Ascot performances at another track. King George will be fascinating.

Altior was bottomed in that ground. He was a very tired horse in the unsaddling enclosure. Hope it doesn’t take him a long time to get over it.

Fair enough

I can agree with that

I didn't think he was out stayed at all. They went up the home straight more or less identically, the difference being the jumping - Cyrname is much more fluent and gained a lot of ground the whole way round.

I'd say the ground didn't help Altior and favored Cyrname, but stamina did not determine that result today. King George very interesting on better going if Altior can jump better.

For the record

I don't think that Altior failed to stay today or that he had any excuses.

I do think though that Altior is at his best over 2 miles

Isn't the shorthand simply that Cyrname is a better horse now. I cant remember when Altior last impressed with his jumping. Has been too good for it to matter for a while. I dont think the King George is his race.

Posted last Monday.

In my view, Altior has been regressing (from his brilliant best) since his first QM win. Whatever happens at the weekend, I don't see him winning a KG or a Gold Cup. The QM will depend on what turns up but he's of no interest at the current prices.

Nothing today to change my opinion.

Jinnyj, how fit did Altior look to you?

I got the impression they were sowing the seed afterwards that maybe he wasn't fit.

The final-furlong overdrive was certainly missing today.

Another thing, it isn't unusual for horses that are reported to have put up an incredible gallop not to back it up on the track. I just wonder if altior did too much in that gallop Hendo was raving about and kind of bounced today?

Yup.

The final furlong overdrive wasn't there because of the extra 5 furlongs today, surely? The tank was empty

Not a hope he goes king George now imo. Nicky too protective. Wherever he goes next, I'd be highly confident that the QMCC is his big/main target.

He was fit. The ground was against him but I still don't think he stayed. There was a lot of changing legs coming into the home straight. Most worryingly he walked away extremely stiff and sore on his back end, and looking very sorry for himself. What that race really proved other than he doesn't get it, I have no idea. They will ruin him if they continue.
