York Ebor meeting

Fabulous racing on the opening day. Shore Step can go close in the opener, as he ticks plenty of boxes.

Tweet from Niall Hannity RacingUK

"Just walked York with Paul Mulrennan, rain stopped, track taken it really well. Rider calls it: "No excuse ground." "

Lagging down at the moment. and likely to be soft ground by tomorrow afternoon. Wouldn't be ideal for any of the market leaders in the Juddmonte, but the greater stamina test would undoubtedly favour GH.
Pity really, as what looked to be the race of the season is likely to be run on ground none of them want.

Andrew Mount (Mounty) this morning

Have had a silly tenner on Arabian Queen at 160, as she could get easy lead

Pleased for Storm The Stars. Hardy so and so. Been to many gigs so to hold his form is impressive.

Money lost on Oasis Fantasy yet again, mainly because of Ian Williams and Fahey pulling their charges. Cocksuckers.

He's No Saint (3.05) returned to something like his best for the application of a visor latest, and there may still be latitude in his new rating.
Stable jockey's preferred from almost half the field, too. :)

I've done Mange All at 8s in the mile handicap. Might need the run which is a worry but his form last year with GM Hopkins and The Corsican looks rather rude now.

I like the French filly in the YO. Got 14s and 12s earlier in the week. Should relish conditiions.

I fancied He's No Saint myself Reet but have been slightly put off by O'Meara's comments re the ground in today's RP, coupled with the slight market slide.

That said, he says the same thing about Birdman (my preferred alternative) but in this case we have a horse who bolted up two runs back on a soft surface, ran Olympic Glory to a head on heavy ground as a two year and even after the recent hikes to his rating is still 2lbs shy of his highest ever OR.

Makin won on him over CD two runs back whereas Tudhope has only ever ridden him once and that was a while back so I'm not placing too much emphasis on the fact the the latter is aboard He's No Saint today.

The owners all come from York so you can bet your bottom dollar the horse will be ready to run for his life. Whether that is good enough we shall see but the trainer excels with improving horses from other yards so 14/1 is worth the risk.

Hughie Morrison has three live outside chances entered in the Ebor on Saturday.

Arab Dawn slightly shades it on the book but the two others (Fun Mac and Nearly Caught) have decent chances.

Certainly nice for a trainer to have three good darts to throw at the board!

Hughie says "the outsider of the three' on Saturday Nearly Caught is best equipped to handle the ground. Hmm...interesting.

Morrison watch brings us Marsh Daisy in the 4:20 at York today. :)

Pat Smullen just failed to make all the running on Covert Love in the Yorkshire Oaks. It may have been a useful sighter all the same because presumably he will be attempting to do the same on Suffused in the next race, which is over the same trip.

Backed Nearly Caught last week so hope the trainers right [although have backed Fun Mac as well].

Richard Pankhurst (3.05) is head and shoulders above these and, having swerved the Guineas and the SJP, is unlikely not to be ready for this much easier test.
