Ned Tanner was pulled from my tracker after his last run but the shape of this race might suit him. Empire Steel is a pure boat so this trip looks to short for him, the opposite applies to Nells Son. Ned Tanner has been disappointing this year although I am tempted to forgive that tame effort the last day as it was on Haydock Heavy which is a bit of a specialist test.

I thought NED TANNER threw away second when he stumbled at the last at Haydock, but he did look very tired in the heavy ground. For all that he seems to love Kelso, but I think he has his work cut out up in Class.

Not sure if Nicky Richards decided to wait for this trip at Kelso to come round again but I suspect he did
won withe head in chest last time can go in again...so I'm on

Winning Irish pointer who landed the odds in Lingfield novice hurdle in November and backed up that effort under a penalty when second of 11 in 2m4f Huntingdon novice 36 days ago. Much respected now going into handicaps with her stamina drawn out more. starstarstar

Pulled Up 9/2 -Coco Mademoiselle stopped quickly after two out and something may have been amiss.

Imposing sort who was unbeaten in 2 bumper runs and maintained 100% record sent hurdling in a race not run to suit at Aintree (20f) on return in October. Shade disappointing here next time but resumed progress/winning ways back up in trip on handicap bow at Lingfield last time. Can go on improving. starstarstarstarstar

2nd 13/8F - Inthewaterside likely matched his Lingfield form attempting to give 8lb to the other protagonists. His getting on edge in the preliminaries and racing keenly once underway didn't impact his performance this time but is something to keep an eye on going forward.RP

Successful over hurdles at Ayr (24.3f) last spring but not kicked on as expected this term, including in a couple of chase tries at Kempton/Newbury, his jumping failing to pass muster latterly. Cheekpieces on 1st time here. starstarstar

Placed twice in bumpers last spring. Stepped up on Newbury hurdle debut when second of 9 in a 19f Catterick novice 37 days ago. May do better still as he brushes up his jumping. starstarstar

WON 11/2 - PIC ROC was a little untidy with his jumping again but has improved with each start over hurdles and took this in the style of one who can to continue to progress.RP

Low-mileage 8-y-o who improved to make a winning return/handicap chase debut at Chepstow (19.5f, soft) in October, seeing off a resilient rival (pair clear). Failed to see things out both outings since and has work to do on these terms. starstar

4th/5 10/1 - The King Of Ryhope, on his first go at this distance over fences, is the interesting one to take from this as he was arguably going best heading into the final stages and still held hope of success when smashing into the last. He doesn't hold any big-race entries but could be the type to land a decent handicap this spring.

Smart winner at 18f over hurdles. Third of 5 in novice chase at Naas (16f, good to soft, 8/15) 37 days ago, not jumping great and struggling to go with the front pair as the pace lifted before closing gradually again late on. Remains capable of better and this looks a good opening.starstarstarstarstar

WON 1/2f- MISTER POLICEMAN seems to very much a work in progress over fences, but he did put a disappointing effort at Naas behind him. After an early nod on landing, he showed that he has more than one way of jumping, but the further they went his confidence increased. This trip is probably short enough for him and on better ground in the spring he could well improve.RP

Gordon uses these kind of races to sweeten up horses every spring from Labaik to Carlito Brigante if memory recalls.
Sure to be well enough handicapped to snare a good prize.

Runner-up on first 2 starts (trained in France on debut), going down by only a head in 2½m Aintree novice for new connections at the end of October. Better than result when fifth of 6 on 2m Haydock handicap debut just before Christmas, bad mistake last (also lost shoe). Form choice back up in trip. starstarstarstarstar

WON 8/15f - Jagwar, pitched in deep at Haydock (lost a shoe) having been just touched off in a maiden at Aintree previously, did well to recover from a mistake at the final hurdle to reel in his elder rival. He travelled strongly throughout, seeing out this extra yardage well, and is probably a better horse than this bare result would indicate. He'd be worth another go in handicap company from his current mark.RP

The Goffer ran notably in 'that ultima' and is nailed on to win a big one, only question is when they press the button.

Fairly useful ex-French winning hurdler/chaser who built on his solid reappearance second at Wincanton when cosily landing a 3m Exeter handicap in November. Better than bare result the last twice (in higher-grade races) and a bold show is anticipated.starstarstarstar

WON 9/4 ENJOY YOUR LIFE, eased in grade after two heavy defeats since winning at Exeter in November, wasn't the only one in the line up with questions to answer but found enough to get his head back in front. He's capable on his day but isn't the easiest to predict.

Real chasing type who made a positive start in this sphere last season and, while he hasn't really kicked on, his latest fourth at Kempton was a step back in the right direction.starstarstar

4th/6 7/2 - Dalamoi was dropping in class and trip after a small break. He looked likely to get much more competitive on the testing ground, but made a bad error four out, and never really recovered a competitive rhythm.

Useful at up to 1½m on the Flat and made a winning start over hurdles with a fair bit in hand at Lingfield (2m) in November. Built on that when third of 5 in an introductory event a Newbury subsequently and appeals as the type to go on again.

3rd 13/8 - Paradias cut out quickly on the tiring ground, failing to run to his previous level. He again raced keenly and it could be that handicaps bring out the best in him.

3rd/6 20/1 - Ambion View confirmed the promise he'd already shown, staying on nicely having been outpaced early in the straight. He can win one of these before going over hurdles.

Point winner/hurdles winner who looked unlucky not to win on second chase start at Chepstow (23.6f) in December (all but came down 4 out) and ran creditably when chasing home Top of The Bill back here 23 days ago, caught a little flat-footed. 8 lb better off with that rival now.starstarstarstar

Pulled Up 6/4fav - Hurricane Highway had strong claims at the revised weights with with the second and third but failed to run his race, possibly not handling these conditions despite having form on similar.

Useful on Flat in Germany and has been quick in getting the hang of hurdling, cheekpieces fitted when readily landing 6-runner novice at Musselburgh (15.6f, good to soft) 20 days ago. This is tougher but he's in excellent hands and can't be discounted. starstarstar

5th/6 11/2 - Panjari won a race at Musselburgh earlier in the month which rather fell apart and he couldn't cope with this step up in class. RP

Smart hurdler is yet to fully improve upon that form over fences. Better than result last twice and should benefit from return to this sphere.starstarstarstar

4th 10/1 - Monmiral, a former winner of the Grade 1 4YO Anniversary Hurdle at Aintree, was reverting to hurdles following a couple of comprehensive defeats over fences. He looked a threat coming to three out, but no sooner had he made ground, he hung markedly left and didn't appear to be helping his rider. His stamina seemed to run out on the run-in.RP

Heros was not off the last day imo, he's a pace horse and was held up. He has a three pound claimer on and has dropped a couple so he's effectively on a very similar mark to his Taunton win. He's worth a small interest today.
