Grand National protests

The horses that are not looked after, these people don't care about. You can drive past fields and see some poor not looked after animals in those fields. That is animal cruelty.

Their time would be better spent clearing up litter in the New Forest where loads of horses and ponies die every year from eating the rubbish people leave behind. But they’re not interested in that

I see these muppets are now trying to get NH racing banned. Time they took a camera into the countryside and filmed all the forlorn horses just stuck in fields. Some of the sights you see are shocking.

There are so many areas of animal cruelty and neglect that they could get involved in and make a difference that I listed on another thread. But instead they target something that they know will get the best headlines. I don’t think this has had the positive response that they were hoping for but they still got the headlines and greater publicity which is what they desire ultimately.

118 arrests by all reports but I imagine all they will get is a slap on the wrist. In future I think they should probably put razor wire on the top of that fencing and maybe make it a permanent fixture because they’re not going to give up.

It is serious when it can gather mainstream attention but let's be very real

This was attention seeking make me famous, influencer bullshit

I suggest at next year's meeting, security will be much tighter

NH racing is taking a right kicking on Clive Bull's LBC show right now. NH racing is really under the cosh here, particularly the National.

Been under the cosh since Devon Loch jumped a shadow.....the BHA need to grow a pair and tell thse doegooders to gfy.

The more the BHA give into their demands the more they will keep demanding. but the BHA are too dumb to realise that and too scared to tell them to GFY.

I think the compromise may well be that racing only exists on the flat in a few years time. I could live with that. Horses losing their lives jumping a fence, just because a human has had a few quid on it, really is not a good look.

And no doubt they are interviewing all those who say what they want to hear. As Ed Chamberlain said yesterday, the woman who fronts this idiotic rebellion has never been to a racing yard in her life, nor probably does she intend to. It’s easier for her to promote her crusade to indoctrinate the snowflakes into becoming transgender vegans.....which I guess will ultimately help with the population issue.

Snowflake attitude -you don't understand or appreciate National Hunt racing.

Here we go. I do know that more horses jumping a fence will be killed than on the flat, or do you want to argue that point? Call me a snowflake all you want, but a fatality rate 0.4% in NH racing is not good viewing.

Yet you have often told us how much you like Cheltenham and how you usually take the week off and go to the pub -certain amount of hypocrisy there.

I total agree - and that is the dilemma I confront every time I have a bet. It doesn’t stop me from wishing I didn’t have to make that choice. And I would be happier not making that choice and only betting on the flat. And, yes, I had a few bets yesterday to sustain NH racing! I’m still allowed a margin of self-loathing, however.

We all have a fair bit of self loathing when it comes to horses getting injured and ultimately losing their lives. But it happens on the Flat as well although not quite so much. It happens at home during training and even when they are turned out in the field. In rare cases, horses lose their lives travelling to the races. There is an element of risk to every day for every human and animal.

Yes technically we are employing them for our sport but we justify it because they really do live extremely comfortable lives and lives and we will do everything in our power to make sure that their comfort is out first (I watched the video of Corach Rambler arriving back home last night or more likely the early hours and the staff up and about fussing around him).

Racing does everything imaginable to make sure safety it paramount and continues to investigate and learn from every accident and fall. As a sport, it’s probably at the forefront of this.

As I said in another post, there are far, far greater incidents of cruelty towards animals than racing but these misguided snowflakes aren’t going to be happy until every animal lives in a field doing absolutely nothing...as nature intended according to them.

Thanks, Jinny.

I know racehorses are unbelievably well looked after, but they do only have a life, well, because we want a bet on them. No industry means no racehorses means no unnecessary deaths. However, I am not totally ignorant to the absolute joy an animal can bestow upon someone; but I’d also ask why would you risk having that joy ripped away from you if your beautiful horse met a fence all wrong?

I must admit that I’ve always had to juggle the dilemma, but more recently a magnificent cat, Arthur, has come into my life - literally. He’s not ours, but luckily No.66 are quite happy that he stays 20 hours a day with us, as long as we don’t feed him, so that he can back home to be fed. Arthur has made me reevaluate my relationship with animals, I suppose. I’ve even turned veggie! But not vegan, and I’m not trans. :):)

So if you ban NH racing what happens to all the horses.how many would be put down because of the cost of keeping them.
The good ones might survive but what about the majority.
The protesters had to be partially responsible for the deaths yesterday.
Sandy Thompson made a good point in a report I've just read.Hill Sixteen had jumped round aintree twice and had never fallen before yesterday but all the delays and interruptions didnt help.the horses were all wound up .
Nobody likes to see a horse die but as in previous posts there is more cruelty in everyday life.

I’m not sure how accurate this is but I was talking to somebody Pointing today and they said that Galvin had got caught up in one of the ladders that the protesters had had removed as they tried to access the course and ended up getting cut.

LBC had another hour on this today, mainly negative. They did have an ex trainer on but I was busy so didn't hear his view. He was on a long time too.

I know this stuff happens in the moment, but I am getting the idea NH racing is really coming under threat over this. Does anyone else feel the same? I admit I listen to LBC every day so maybe getting a skewed view but it is just an hour of negative views each time they cover it.
